Mad Max here. Had a few moments so here’s your sports brief for today.
Dana White has postponed the next 3 UFC events. This comes after the White House recommending to avoid gatherings over 10 people. Other than some random soccer games (that I expect will soon be postponed) you currently are looking at the eSports market to bet on. Good thing Arch has us prepared for that!
The big news is that the Texans traded top wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals for (sometimes elite) running back David Johnson and some draft picks. Bill O’Brien wasn’t fired last year and instead was promoted. He traded for Laremy Tunsil and perhaps the dealing of Hopkins is a way to recoup some assets and get a potentially solid running back. As Arch says, “Running backs don’t matter” but maybe this is what the Texans need to get them into the second round of the playoffs.
The Colts made a deal with the Niners for DeForest Buckner – trading the 13th overall pick in this year’s draft. Buckner will sign a big deal with Colts that makes him the second highest paid defensive tackle (behind some dude named Aaron Donald). Alongside Justin Houston and Darius Leonard, this Colts defense could be brutal.
Former Lions’ o-lineman Graham Glasgow heads to Denver on a 4 year, $44m contract. That includes $26m in guarantees.
Tight end Austin Hooper jumped ship from Atlanta to go to the Browns. Have fun with that Hooper. Also suffering in Cleveland will be QB Case Keenum and OT Jack Conklin.
Atlanta also parted ways with Devonta Freeman with 3 years left on his deal.
The Cowboys ensured mediocrity for another season by franchise tagging Dak Prescott.Speaking of mediocrity, the Vikings also get 2 more years of that with their 2 year extension with Kirk Cousins.
The earliest to expect baseball back is May. The NBA season might not resume until June – meaning a potentially fun summer of sports.
