Max’s College Football Picks for 1/1/21
Cincinnati at Georgia
Spread: Georgia -9 (Lean Georgia)
Total: 52.5 (Lean Over)
Overview: Cincinnati’s defense has been legit this season but they have not faced an offense like Georgia’s. The Bulldogs will be without James Cook but Zamir White should fill right in. JT Daniels has been solid in his 3 starts at QB and has the Georgia offense playing very well. I’m leaning Georgia here to win and cover.
Auburn at Northwestern
Spread: Northwestern -4 (Bet Auburn)
Total: 43.5 (Bet Under)
Overview: Auburn fired Gus Malzahn so Kevin Steele will coach this game against a Northwestern team would like to end on a high note after a loss to Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship. Northwestern will be missing key players on both offense and defense and any losses to their offense will be a major problem. Auburn will also be without one of its best receivers and several players in their secondary. But I am banking on Auburn’s offense to make Northwestern work today and keep it to within a field goal. I’ll bet Auburn and the under.
Notre Dame at Alabama
Spread: Alabama -19.5 (Lean Alabama)
Total: 66 (Lean Over)
Overview: It’s hard to argue just how good Alabama’s offense has been this season. Mac Jones has arguably been better than both Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts. Defensively, this team suffered from a bunch of missed tackles and sloppy play earlier in the season but has looked much more disciplined since giving up 48 to Ole Miss. Notre Dame will have their hands full in this one but they have a solid defense that will try to forget about their ACC Championship game. I do think the Crimson Tide win and probably covers. But it’s too much chalk for my liking. Leaning Alabama.
Ohio State at Clemson
Spread: Clemson -7.5 (Bet Ohio State)
Total: 68 (Lean Over)
Overview: The argument will be here if Ohio State deserves to be here. Honestly, given their sampling of games this year, I think they would have been here in a longer season too. Sure, they beat up on some weaker teams but it’s not their fault that Michigan sucks so badly. Ohio State’s defense lost a good chunk of players to the NFL last season but they still look aggressive and hungry. I think they will have some motivation to get to Trevor Lawrence and make his day miserable. Will the Buckeyes win? Maybe. But I think if they lose they keep this very close. I’ll bet Ohio State here.
