Excepts from Mad Max’s Notes:
Spurs at Suns
Another one of those Mexico City games. Each team has had a few days off with the Spurs coming off a loss to the Cavs and the Suns a loss to the Grizzlies. The loss by the Spurs saw them losing a 5 point lead in the last 20 seconds of the game. That’s another home loss for a team that used to be unbeatable at home. Both teams are only 4-6 straight up in their last 10 with the Spurs even worst ATS. Devin Booker is listed as questionable but with the Suns at favorites here you imagine he will play.
Nets at Raptors
The Raptors have lost 4 of 5 and just aren’t looking right. We mentioned that the other day on the show and they laid an egg against the Clippers. Brooklyn has gone 9-4 without Kyrie Irving and Spencer Dinwiddie leading the way but are coming off a loss against the Hornets. Both teams struggle against above .500 teams so something will give today. The Raptors are 9-3 at home but have lost 3 straight in Toronto.
Clippers at Bulls
The Clippers got a good win yesterday and it’s always a question about Kawhi playing in these back to backs. It’s a dangerous game because the Bulls are easy to overlook but the Bulls can put up some offense. Last night was not one of those case as they barely got to 70 points. The Clippers have been 7-3 ATS.
Wizards at Grizzlies
Ja Morant was held out last night for injury maintenance. That and load balance are really fucking with sports betting in the NBA. But we forge on as we look at the Bullets who have lost three in a row as they travel to Memphis who lost last night to Milwaukee. Both teams have not done well ATS lately and the Bullets offense has cooled down a bit while their defense has not gotten better. I like the Grizzlies to get the win tonight.
Heat at Mavs
The Heat suffered their first home loss last night to the Lakers and now travel over to Dallas for a game against the Mavs. Dallas has off last night and are coming off their win in Mexico City over the Pistons. Luka Doncic hit 6 threes and had 41 points in that game as he continues his strong argument for MVP. Despite the loss to the Lakers, the Heat can take a moral victory by keeping the game within 3 and betters can also take that victory if they weren’t like me who bet the Lakers. Miami is 7-6 on the road straight up but have been known to lay some eggs. After giving their all to the Lakers last night I think injuries and fatigue will catch up today.
Cavs at Bucks
The Cavs broke their losing streak with a win over the Spurs the other night but now they must play a Bucks team that has won 17 straight and about to be 18. Giannis played last night and scored 37. It’ll be interesting to see if he plays tonight. Maybe injury maintenance will come into play. Either way, it’s dumb to bet against the Bucks right now.
Thunder at Nuggets
The Nuggets lost 5 of 6 but came out strong on Thursday for a good win over the Blazers. OKC has won 3 of 4 and their last game was a close loss to the Kings. The Thunder continue to be a nightmare matchup against the spread. They are 16-8 on the season ATS and 7-3 in their last 10. I love OKC here getting these points against a Denver team that is mediocre with covering spreads this season.
Pistons at Rockets
Arch mentioned he wanted to take an L yesterday by betting the Magic and welp, he took an L. Jimmy James Harden had another big game and the Rockets were not the Missiles as they took down Orlando by 23 points yesterday. Harden has gone for 50 points the past two games and I can see him doing it tonight. Detroit has been a very inconsistent team on both offense and defense and after being torched by Luka in Mexico City it’s looking like they need to triple team Harden to have any kind of luck tonight. Despite the big win yesterday, Houston is still subpar ATS.
Devils at Coyotes
Well, was right about the Devils last night and the same applies today. This is a team that is in tank mode and ready to trade some assets now. Arizona had a nice win on Thursday and should get another today. Its really past my chalk threshold but as I’ve seen in hockey, that threshold isn’t as defined as I had it in baseball.
Sabres at Islanders
Both teams are playing well lately. The Sabres are back on track and have won 3 in a row. The Islanders continue to play solid defense as they’ve given up only 1 goal in back to back games. The Islanders had a player score a Gordie Howe hat trick on Thursday. Anders Lee scored a goal, got an assist and got into a fight. I love the Islanders here but it’s a lot of chalk against a Sabres team that can play very good hockey at times.
Capitals at Lightning
Not one I plan on touching but I’m finding it interesting that the money is coming in hard on the Capitals and the line is getting better for them. Both teams are playing very well lately, and the Capitals are 14-2 on the road.
Hurricanes at Flames
The money is coming hard on the Hurricanes and I’ve made some money betting on them this year but I have to fade the money here. Calgary has been unbelievable lately and have a +8 goal differential over their last 5. They are 10-3 at home and 8-2 over their last 10. This is the third game of a road trip for Carolina and they lost a 1-0 shutout in OT on Thursday to the Canucks. It’s a close one.
Kings at Penguins
Some early line shifting for the Penguins here. It might be because of uncertainty over who will start in goal for Pittsburgh today. Tristan Jarry has been unstoppable this season in front of the net and he was a third stringer in the AHL last season. Now he’s gotten more starts lately than Matt Murray who led the Penguins to two Stanley Cups. Pittsburgh has won 4 of 5 and are 9-1-2 in their last 12 home games. The Penguins are missing a lot of key players on offense so maybe early money jumped on the Kings as a value bet.
