Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 1/18/22
MIN (-2) at NYK (2)
Pick: Bet $10 NYK ML
Total: 212.5 (Lean Over – 218)
Predicted Score: MIN 110 – NYK 108
Notes: Fresh off a win over the Warriors, the T-Wolves hit the road to take on a Knicks team that has won 3 of 5 games. But in those two losses, New York averaged 81 points of offense.
It’s part of their feast or famine approach to offense that defines this team’s inconsistent season. New York is 11-12 at home this year and 22-22 on the season.
Despite that, I kind of like them here today.
The T-Wolves aren’t awful on the road. They are 9-12 and prior to their home win over the Warriors, they had a decent enough road trip. But the struggled against the better teams on their schedule on that road trip.
It’s hard to say this Knicks team is a better team. Without Derrick Rose, this team has not been able to match the energy they had last season.
Kemba Walker has played decent enough when he’s healthy – but that’s been a big if this season.
Statistically, these teams are pretty similar when it comes to defense and shooting. The Knicks turn the ball over less than Minnesota and maybe that’s a key difference in this one.
I have this game close and maybe the line is spot on. But I find enough value in New York to bet them on the moneyline.
$10 bet on the Knicks’ moneyline.
DET (14.5) at GSW (-14.5)
Pick: Lean GSW
Total: 215.5 (Lean Under – 208)
Predicted Score: DET 96 – GSW 112
Winnipeg Jets (115) at Washington Capitals (-135)
Pick: Bet $10 Winnipeg
Notes: The Jets have had an uneven season. And having their head coach resign before midseason was not intended. But maybe it had some positive results.
Since Dave Lowry took over the Jets are 4-2 and have beaten some good competition. And when Connor Hellebuyck is playing his best hockey, this team is tough to beat.
The Capitals have been struggling as of late – with one win over their last five games. Their offense has not been producing like it previously had been. Maybe they can get some good shots on goal tonight but they need to hope that Hellebuyck is off his game tonight.
I have this as a close one and as such, the value is taking the plus line.
$10 bet on the Jets.
Carolina Hurricanes (110) at Boston Bruins (-130)
Pick: Bet $10 Boston
Notes: Really great matchup here as the Hurricanes head to Boston to take on a red-hot Bruins team. Boston has won 8 of 9 games with wins over the Lightning and Capitals in there.
Carolina has been playing very good hockey but now find themselves trailing the Rangers in the Metropolitan Division. The Hurricanes are 13-4 on the road and are one of the best defensive teams in the league.
Freddie Andersen has been stellar in goal. The defense in front of him has done a great job of limiting high danger shots and killing penalties.
So getting the Hurricanes with a plus line seems like a logical play.
Yet, I cannot fade this Bruins team right now.
So a $10 bet on Boston.
Florida Panthers (-125) at Calgary Flames (105)
Pick: Bet $10 Florida
Notes: Florida has won 4 games in a row and head to Calgary to take on a Flames team that has lost 4 in a row. The Panthers have not been stellar on the road this season but this one seems like a winnable game for sure.
The Panthers are second in the league in goals scored per game and while their offense has been overproducing according to their shot selection, this is a team that will continue to put up goals the remainder of this season.
There is a vulnerability at goal as the Panthers are a mid-tier defensive team. But still good enough to shut down this Flames team.
Calgary started this season off as one of the better teams but have faded in the Western Conference. Along with their Canadian counterparts the Oilers, the Flames have dropped below the California teams in the Pacific Division.
The line is suspect for sure. And maybe this is a Panther-sized trap. But I can’t resist.
$10 bet on Florida.
Buffalo Sabres (120) at Ottawa Senators (-140)
Pick: Lean Ottawa
New York Islanders (-140) at Philadelphia Flyers (116)
Pick: Lean New York
Vancouver Canucks (155) at Nashville Predators (-180)
Pick: Lean Nashville
Montreal Canadiens (210) at Dallas Stars (-265)
Pick: Lean Dallas
Tampa Bay Lightning (-170) at Los Angeles Kings (140)
Pick: Lean Tampa
