Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 6/9/21
DEN (6) at PHX (-6)
Pick: Bet $15 PHX ML (-226)
Total: 222.5 (Lean Under – 222)
Predicted Score: DEN 106 – PHX 116
Notes: Denver had the lead against the Suns in game 1 but Phoenix turned it on in the 4th and pulled away. Afterwards, Denver’s coach said they played soft. So we will see how they start the game tonight. Especially being bolstered by the news that Jokic won MVP yesterday.
Michael Porter Jr. is questionable for today’s game with some back pains. He should play but will see if he’s limited in what he can do. Chris Paul appears to be healthy and the past 4 games – 3 wins over the Lakers and the game 1 win – the Suns look like their best selves out on the court.
I do think this will be a competitive series and maybe goes 6 or 7 games. But Denver will need to fight back from a 2-0 hole.
$15 ML bet on the Suns.
Boston Bruins (-136) at New York Islanders (123)
Pick: Bet $20 Boston
Notes: I backed the Islanders on the road in the last game because of their value. That value has dropped with them at home but still getting a plus line is tempting. I just have a feeling this series was destined to go 7.
The home crowd will be insane today but home ice has not really mattered in this series. By the metrics, Boston has outplayed the Islanders. But as we have seen, good metrics don’t equate to wins (cough, Florida and Carolina).
On Monday night though, the Islanders held Boston to 6 high danger shots – playing some aggressive defense with hard checks. That riled up Boston and caused them to retaliate – only doing so and getting some penalties. That led to power plays for the Islanders that they certainly took advantage of.
Boston goalie Tuukka Rask has not looked sharp his last few games but should revert to his norm. I’m hoping so at least. $20 bet on the Bruins.
SF (-104) at TEX (-104)
Pitchers: S. Long (n/a) vs. K. Gibson (ERA: 2.07 – Home ERA: 0.58 – Avg. ML: 134)
Pick: Bet $10 SF
Notes: There is a discrepancy over starter pitcher for San Francisco today. I have seen DeScalafani, Zack Littell and Sam Long all listed as a starter today. Long is a highly touted prospect who they promoted up and does appear to be the guy. Whoever it is, will have the tough task of matching up against Gibson for the Rangers and his astounding 0.58 home ERA.
Still, it’s hard to pass up the Giants here with such a low line. So a $10 bet on San Francisco.
CHC (191) at SD (-210)
Pitchers: J. Arrieta (ERA: 5.33 – Road ERA: 7.31 – Avg. ML: -100) vs. Y. Darvish (ERA: 2.29 – Home ERA: 2.27 – Avg. ML: -151)
Pick: Bet $10 CHC
Notes: The Cubs got the better of the Padres yesterday so no way they do it today, right? Well with this value I’ll take a shot. It will be interesting to see how Darvish does with his spin rate today now that the MLB is keeping a closer eye on things.
Arrieta has not been good this year and even worse on the road with a 7.31 road ERA. Maybe he can borrow something from Darvish today to help him out.
$10 bet on the Cubs.
LAD (-165) at PIT (151)
Pitchers: T. Gonsolin (n/a) vs. T. Anderson (ERA: 4.76 – Home ERA: 4.03 – Avg. ML: 136)
Pick: Bet $10 LAD
Notes: Tony Gonsolin returns from his IL stint to take on Tyler Anderson and the Pirates today. The Dodgers broke a 2-game losing streak yesterday with a win over the Pirates and now they can start a 2-game winning streak.
The Dodgers offense is just too much for a team like the Pirates to keep up with and I would need +175 for me to consider the Pirates.
$10 bet on the Dodgers.
SEA (108) at DET (-117)
Pitchers: C. Flexen (ERA: 4.8 – Road ERA: 8.39 – Avg. ML: 135) vs. C. Mize (ERA: 3.4 – Home ERA: 4.69 – Avg. ML: 152)
Pick: Bet $10 DET
Notes: I didn’t bet the Tigers yesterday because I wanted to avoid eating chalk on them and now I’m eating more chalk on them today. Detroit has the better starter and has proven to be the more consistent offense compared to the Mariners.
$10 bet on Detroit.
TOR (134) at CWS (-146)
Pitchers: A. Manoah (ERA: 3.96 – Road ERA: 0 – Avg. ML: -104) vs. L. Lynn (ERA: 1.39 – Home ERA: 1.47 – Avg. ML: -143)
Pick: Bet $10 CWS
Notes: I hit on the White Sox yesterday and time to double-dip. Lance Lynn has had a great year so far and while I like what I have seen from Manoah for the Blue Jays, I think he will find the Chicago bats less forgiving than the lazy-at-times Yankees’ bats.
$10 bet on the White Sox.
ARI (191) at OAK (-210)
Pitchers: M. Peacock (ERA: 4.41 – Road ERA: 3.87 – Avg. ML: 161) vs. S. Manaea (ERA: 3.42 – Home ERA: 3.47 – Avg. ML: -113)
Pick: Lean OAK
ATL (116) at PHI (-125)
Pitchers: T. Davidson (ERA: 2.41 – Road ERA: n/a – Avg. ML: -143) vs. Z. Eflin (ERA: 4.19 – Home ERA: 2.25 – Avg. ML: -101)
Pick: Lean PHI
NYM (-148) at BAL (136)
Pitchers: T. Walker (ERA: 2.2 – Road ERA: 3.35 – Avg. ML: -107) vs. M. Harvey (ERA: 6.97 – Home ERA: 5.38 – Avg. ML: 142)
Pick: Lean BAL
MIL (-115) at CIN (106)
Pitchers: B. Anderson (ERA: 4.82 – Road ERA: 5.09 – Avg. ML: 101) vs. V. Gutierrez (ERA: 2.7 – Home ERA: n/a – Avg. ML: 126)
Pick: Lean MIL
COL () at MIA ()
Pitchers: A. Gomber (ERA: 4.18 – Road ERA: 5.53 – Avg. ML: 152) vs. Undecided
HOU (124) at BOS (-135)
Pitchers: J. Odorizzi (ERA: 7.6 – Road ERA: 8.78 – Avg. ML: -118) vs. N. Eovaldi (ERA: 3.71 – Home ERA: 4.35 – Avg. ML: -120)
Pick: Lean BOS
WSH (133) at TB (-145)
Pitchers: P. Corbin (ERA: 6.38 – Road ERA: 7.44 – Avg. ML: 106) vs. S. McClanahan (ERA: 4.17 – Home ERA: 3.83 – Avg. ML: -110)
Pick: Lean TB
NYY (-180) at MIN (164)
Pitchers: G. Cole (ERA: 2.27 – Road ERA: 2.25 – Avg. ML: -200) vs. R. Dobnak (ERA: 7.23 – Home ERA: 9 – Avg. ML: -142)
Pick: Lean MIN
CLE (113) at STL (-122)
Pitchers: J. Mejia (ERA: 0 – Road ERA: 0 – Avg. ML: -110) vs. A. Wainwright (ERA: 4.26 – Home ERA: 2.66 – Avg. ML: -104)
Pick: Lean STL
KC (116) at LAA (-125)
Pitchers: B. Keller (ERA: 5.69 – Road ERA: 4.17 – Avg. ML: 126) vs. G. Canning (ERA: 5.91 – Home ERA: 6.63 – Avg. ML: 100)
Pick: Lean LAA
