Max’s NBA Bet Picks for 12/29/20
Current NBA Bankroll is $1,043.15 after dropping $25 on the Missiles yesterday. I have $160 in total bets today – which is about 15% of my bankroll. It’s a bit more than I’d like to put up this early in the season but there’s a lot of games today where I am seeing value. If I miss out today, I’ll lower my action tomorrow.
Boston at Indiana
Spread: BOS -1 (Lean Pacers)
Total: 218.5 (Lean Under)
Predicted Score: Pacers 109 – Celtics 108
Overview: Boston will try to avoid losing 3 in a row and starting the season 1-3. Indiana got the better of them on Sunday with Malcom Brogdon leading the way. I like the Pacers to pull out another win today. Leaning Indiana.
Chicago at Washington
Spread: WAS -5.5 ($20 Bet Wizards)
Total: 234 (Lean Under)
Predicted Score: Wizards 113 – Bulls 104
Overview: Both teams are looking for their first win of the season. The Bulls almost pulled one off against Golden State on Sunday while Washington is coming off back-to-back losses to the Magic. Bradley Beal is off to a hot start this season and Russell Westbrook is back to averaging a triple double to start off the year. Thaddeus Young is out for Chicago and Lauri Markkanen is questionable with a calf injury tonight. I like the Bullets to get their first win of the year tonight and will bet Washington.
Golden State at Detroit
Spread: GS -3.5 ($20 Bet Detroit)
Total: 222.5 (Lean Under)
Predicted Score: Detroit 105 – Golden State 104
Overview: The Golden State offense finally showed up as they narrowly beat the Bulls. But their defense is still trending to be one of the worst in the league as they wait for their defensive anchor Draymond Green to get back from injury. Detroit’s offense has looked pretty good so far and they kept it fairly close with Atlanta last night. The Pistons did that without Derek Rose, Blake Griffin and Jahill Okafor – who will be back tonight.
I think the Pistons pull out the win but I’ll bet them with the points.
Toronto at Philadelphia
Spread: PHI -2.5 (Lean Raptors)
Total: 218.5 ($20 Bet Under)
Predicted Score: Sixers 107 – Raptors 106
Overview: Shockingly, the Raptors could start the year 0-3. The Sixers will look to shake off their loss to the Cavs on Sunday with Joel Embiid probably returning to the lineup for tonight’s game. This should be a close one and Philly should get the win. But I will lean the Raptors with the points.
New York at Cleveland
Spread: CLE -3.5 ($20 Bet Knicks)
Total: 216.5 (Lean Under)
Predicted Score: Knicks 107 – Cavs 105
Overview: Man, the trend of me being a few days late to a team continues. The Knicks looked awful in their first two starts of the season and then they came out swinging against the Bucks. Julius Randle has looked solid so far – averaging 24 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists per game. He will need to do a lot with the slew of injuries for New York today.
Obi Toppin is out for a week with a calf injury and Immanuel Quickley, Austin Rivers and Dennis Smith Jr. have been ruled out for today while Kevin Knox and Alec Burks aren’t certain either.
The Cavs are 3-0 so far but they are playing above their heads. Colin Sexton and Andre Drummond look good together but without Kevin Love, Matthew Dellavedova, and Kevin Porter Jr. today, it should be a winnable game for the short-handed Knicks.
I’ll be an idiot again and bet the Knicks.
Milwaukee at Miami
Spread: MIL -5.5 ($20 Bet Bucks)
Total: 222.5 (Lean Over)
Predicted Score: Bucks 118 – Heat 108
Overview: The Bucks have not looked dominant to start the year. A close loss to the Celtics, a blowout loss to the Knicks and a beatdown of Golden State sandwiched in between is not how Milwaukee anticipated kicking the year off. Now they get matched up with the team that bounced them from the playoffs last year.
But the Heat will more than likely be without Jimmy Butler tonight meaning that Bam Adebayo and Goran Dragic will need to lead the way.
I like Milwaukee to make a statement tonight and come out big. It’s not the double-digit chalk I ate on them on Sunday but my action is the same. Betting the Bucks.
Orlando at Okla City
Spread: ORL -5 ($20 Bet Thunder)
Total: 219.5 (Lean Under)
Predicted Score: Thunder 107 – Magic 106
Overview: OKC almost pulled out the upset last night. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues his good start – putting up 23 points and 7 assists. He’s getting help from guys like Luguentz Dort and Darius Bazely. OKC is a team that many people don’t expect much from but they could be a surprise again this year.
Orlando is 3-0 but they’ve gotten 2 of those wins from Washington. I’m not sure what to think of the Magic just let except that I don’t think they are 5 point favorites over the Thunder. I’ll bet OKC and hope I’m not a day late to the party.
Minnesota at LA Clippers
Spread: LAC -8 (Lean Timberwolves)
Total: 229.5 (Lean Under)
Predicted Score: Clippers 115 – Timberwolves 114
Overview: Both teams are looking to bounce back after blowout losses on Sunday. Kawhi Leonard might miss tonight’s game after suffering that vicious mouth injury in their last game. Karl-Anthony Towns will miss extended time with a dislocated wrist – so LA should be able to sneak out a win today.
I’ll lean Minnesota with the points.
New Orleans at Phoenix
Spread: PHO -3.5 ($20 Bet New Orleans)
Total: 223.5 (Lean Over)
Predicted Score: Pelicans 114 – Suns 111
Overview: New Orleans’ defense has looked really good to start the season. I’m not sure if they can keep that up but for now, it’s something to pay attention to as they rank 3rd in defensive efficiency and 1st in opponents points allowed per game. The same cannot be said about the Suns’ offense – which has not been as dynamic as last season. That said, they are 2-1 to start the year and the Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Chris Paul trio are working well together so far.
That said, I like what I am seeing from New Orleans and think they can get the straight-up win tonight. I’ll still take the points though and bet the Pelicans.
Denver at Sacramento
Spread: DEN -2.5 ($20 Bet Kings)
Total: 224 (Lean Under)
Predicted Score: Kings 109 – Nuggets 107
Overview: Nikola Jokic is currently an MVP candidate. He’s averaging 24 points, 12 rebounds and 14 assists per game. The assists might not be sustainable but still, he’s doing everything to push Denver to wins. And they finally found the win column last night against the Missiles. Their win streak could stop there as Sacramento looks to steal another game from Denver in this early season.
I was not high on the Kings and it’s still yet to be determined what the full season has in store. But early on, they are a middle of the pack team and not a bottom dweller. I like them at home today getting the points. I’ll bet the Kings.
