Max’s NBA Bet Picks for 2/13/21
Philadelphia (-1) at Phoenix (1)
Pick: Lean Philadelphia
Total: 224.5 (Lean Under – 220)
Predicted Score: Philadelphia 112 – Phoenix 108
Overview: Right now, it is hard to argue that Philly is not the best team in the East. After Milwaukee’s no-show against Utah last night, Philly remains as the only Eastern Conference team that steps up in big games. Granted, they did shrink in their game on Thursday against Portland – but now they will look to bounce back against the Suns.
A Suns team that has won 4 in a row and has mowed down everyone in the East – including Milwaukee on Wednesday. Phoenix outranks Philly in offensive efficiency and effective field goal % while the Sixers are better in defensive efficiency and opponent’s effective field goal %.
Neither team is ultra-reliant on three pointers so this should be a more aggressive, inside game. Which tends to favor Joel Embiid. He does like to step up against teams that have marquis centers and Deandre Ayton is shaping up to be one.
I like Philly to go on the road and pull out the win. I’ll lean Philly.
Indiana (-1.5) at Atlanta (1.5)
Pick: Lean Atlanta
Total: 226.5 (Lean Under – 225)
Predicted Score: Indiana 113 – Atlanta 112
Overview: Atlanta got beat down by San Antonio last night and now they play their third game in four nights as they host the Pacers tonight. The Hawks have lost 2 in a row and 4 of 5. The Hawks are only 6-8 at home this season and their offensive numbers are worse at home than on the road. The Hawks did manage to put up a big 4th quarter yesterday but it was when the game was out of hand due to only scoring 19 in the second quarter.
The Pacers broke a losing streak on Thursday after beating the Pistons. They had played much tougher competition before that and lost significantly in 3 of their 4 previous games. So this is a team that might not make noise in the East – especially without Caris Lavert – but should be able to win the winnable games. This is a winnable game. But it’s too close for me.
Leaning the Hawks with the points.
Houston (-1.5) at New York (1.5)
Pick: Bet $20 Houston
Total: 209.5 (Lean Over – 212)
Predicted Score: Houston 111 – New York 101
Overview: My trend of being on the wrong side of the Knicks continued once again yesterday. The Knicks put a beatdown on the Wizards. Now can they repeat that in back-to-back nights? They Knicks have not faired well in back-to-backs this season but they welcome in a Houston team that has been struggling lately.
Over the Rockets’ 4 game losing streak, they are averaging 96 points per game and giving up 116. That’s not a way to win basketball games. Two of those losses were road losses which dropped their road record to 6-8. So up until now, they had been a fairly good road team.
I expect the Rockets to get back on track and take advantage of the Knicks playing last night. But I have been on the wrong side of the Knicks all season. So bet the farm on New York. Because I am throwing $20 on the Rockets.
Brooklyn (-4) at Golden State (4)
Pick: Bet Golden State
Total: 243 (Lean Under – 231)
Predicted Score: Brooklyn 117 – Golden State 114
Overview: These two teams kicked off the NBA season back in December but are totally different teams now. The Nets made that big trade for Harden and transformed the rest of their lineup in the process. While the Warriors added their defensive captain back and turned around a league’s worst defense.
Golden State has won 3 of 5 and they won their last game by 6 points. Just going to let that sit there for a second because it’s still a sore spot. Brooklyn broke a 3-game losing streak on Wednesday by beating the Pacers. It was a day after shitting the bed against the Pistons. The good news for Brooklyn is that Kevin Durant is cleared to play and face his former team.
Golden State is 9-5 at home this season and their offensive and defensive metrics are better at home than the road while Brooklyn is not stellar on the road – posting a 4-7 record and giving up 8 more points per game away from the Barclay’s Center.
Durant will be motivated, sure, but Curry will be motivated too. And I think the Warriors could outright win this one. But I’ll take the points and bet $20 on the Warriors.
Miami (5) at Utah (-5)
Pick: Lean Miami
Total: 217.5 (Lean Over – 221)
Predicted Score: Utah 112 – Miami 109
Overview: After Utah’s win over the Bucks yesterday, Giannis came out and said that the Jazz are the best team in the Western Conference. I’m sure the Lakers don’t care what Giannis thinks but the way Utah is playing right now, it’s not a crazy statement. Ever since Shaq took a massive shit on Donovan Mitchell, the Jazz have been pretty much unbeatable. So yeah, great commentary there Shaq.
The Jazz are 21-5 on the season and 11-2 at home. This is a team that is the 3rd best team in offensive and defensive efficiency. It’s hard to believe they would lose tonight. But Miami has won 4 in a row and is starting to get healthy. Can the Heat challenge the Jazz tonight and take advantage of them in a back-to-back situation? No, Miami will lose. But I think they keep it within the 5.
Leaning Miami here.
