Max’s Salty NHL Bets for 3/9/2021
Another bad day of picks (1-5) and I went 1-2 in bets. I was saved by my San Jose play – so only lost $10 yesterday. My last 7 days haven’t been stellar pick-wise but bets have done OK. 24-32 in picks and 11-6 in bets.
New Jersey Devils (175) at Washington Capitals (-197)
Pick: Bet Washington
Notes: The Devils started the season strong but have faded lately. Right now, they are playing at the level of what we expected them to be at. Looking at this game, after their surprise win over Boston on Sunday, you might be tempted to take them at this big plus line. Don’t. While I agree that Washington is a bit juiced here, this Capitals team is playing much better defense than expected and their offense is still able to get the job done. They should get the win tonight.
Florida Panthers (-128) at Columbus Blue Jackets (116)
Pick: Bet Florida
Notes: The Panthers are one of the surprise teams this season – posting the 4th best record in hockey. Their expected goals % is 4th best in hockey with Jonathan Huberdeau and Alexander Barkov leading the way. But Florida is not just offense. Their defense ranks 3rd in expected goals against. Florida does have some goalie issues as Sergei Bobrovsky is playing below expectations – but he’s been good enough and should be enough to beat a disappointing Columbus team.
Tampa Bay Lightning (-340) at Detroit Red Wings (289)
Pick: Bet Detroit
Notes: The Red Wings are a dangerous team and Tampa is one of my least favorites to bet on. While Tampa is a good team on the road, they have been on the road for a while now. The Red Wings wrapped up their road trip and are ready to flex some offensive muscles against one of the best in the league. Detroit is still far from what we’d consider a good team – but I love giving them a look when getting big lines and we might not see many bigger lines for them.
Chicago Blackhawks (118) at Dallas Stars (-130)
Pick: Bet Dallas
Notes: Chicago is another surprising team this season as they are somehow in the playoff hunt. But they have a higher-than-average PDO which means some bad luck could be coming their way. Chicago wins a lot of games in OT or shootouts – and that type of winning is not sustainable. As for Dallas, we know who they are. They continue to be a defense-forward team and if offense shows up, cool. Dallas should get it done tonight.
New York Rangers (132) at Pittsburgh Penguins (-146)
Pick: Lean Rangers
Buffalo Sabres (196) at Philadelphia Flyers (-222)
Pick: Lean Philadelphia
Nashville Predators (171) at Carolina Hurricanes (-192)
Pick: Lean Carolina
Boston Bruins (-111) at New York Islanders (101)
Pick: Lean Islanders
Winnipeg Jets (154) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-172)
Pick: Lean Toronto
