NHL Bets! Valentine’s Day Degeneracy

Max’s Notes:

Canadiens at Penguins

Both teams were off last night and for the Penguins, they haven’t played since Tuesday’s close loss to the Lightning. The Penguins acquired Jason Zucker from the Wild and he will make his home debut. The Canadiens are a better road team than they are a home team but are coming off back to back losses. One of which against a dominant Bruins team. The Penguins are pretty damn good themselves and with a 19-5-4 record at home, they are as close to unbeatable as Boston is at home. Money and public are on Pittsburgh and line has improved for them and gotten worse for Montreal. I’m laying off this one but there might be some value in betting the Canadiens.

Rangers at Blue Jackets

Igor Shesterkin did not get the start last night which means he should be slated to play today. The Rangers pulled out a shootout win nonetheless and now head over to Columbus to play a Blue Jackets team that lost in OT last night in Buffalo. That’s their 3rd straight loss and definitely not what they want as they continue to fight for playoff seeding. The Blue Jackets are 18-10-3 at home and are 22-7 against Conference opponents. But I’ll back the hot hand here and bet the Rangers.

Sharks at Jets

Both teams have been off a few days and the way their seasons are going, you could say they have been off for months. But the Jets have gotten 2 wins from San Jose this season and look to close out the sweep tonight. With Arizona fading, Winnipeg still has a shot at a wild card spot in the playoffs. San Jose appears to be ready to trade some of their veteran players and call this season a wash. The Jets are a mediocre team at home and the line movement on this one is very trappy. But I’ll do it. I’ll bet Winnipeg.

Devils at Hurricanes

The Devils win last night showed me that they can beat up on teams worse than them. They have won 3 of 4 with wins coming from Detroit and LA. Now they head to Carolina to face a Hurricanes team that is fighting for a playoff spot. The Hurricanes are only 5-4-1 over their last 10 but they’ve been on the road for a bit and return to Carolina where they are 18-9-1. The Devils do have a goalie who has been playing well lately. Mackenzie Blackwood has given up just 1 goal over his last 3 starts. But playing 3 games in 4 nights, it’s hard to imagine he gets the nod tonight. Too chalky to bet Carolina and without knowing about Blackwood, not enough value in betting the Devils.
