November 21st Thursday Night Football, NBA and NHL Degeneracy

Excerpts from Mad Max’s Notes:

NFL

Colts at Texans

This is an important game. Both teams are tied, and a win here could give a massive edge to either team in securing the AFC South. The Colts are beaten up. They’ve lost their running back and their main wide receiver is banged up. Their secondary has been decimated by injuries and they must be happy they only need to contain DeAndre Hopkins and not both him and Will Fuller. That all said – I think the Ravens showed last week that the Texans offensive line has issues, Deshaun Watson’s ankle is a bit messed up and they can cause some havoc with pressure. Short week and home team is appealing.

NBA

Blazers at Bucks

I whiffed on the Bucks with a big line last night so might as well whiff on them again, right? The Blazers hope that Carmelo game 2 goes better than Carmelo game 1 but I’m bit sold. Milwaukee is on a back to back, but Giannis and crew should be ready to go.

Pelicans at Suns

New Orleans has won 3 of 4 and is 7-6 against the spread. Phoenix has dropped 3 of 4 and the loss of Ayton is really starting to catch up to them. But the Suns are 6-3 against the spread at home and 9-4 against the spread overall. The sharps seem to think the Pelicans is the play here.

NHL
Penguins at Islanders

The Islanders came from behind to beat the Penguins on Tuesday. They’ve won 4 in a row and are third in the Eastern Conference right now.

Sabres at Bruins

Only one book reporting this one so far and it’s Buffalo +180 and Boston -220. The Sabres have been cold lately but the Bruins are pretty banged up. Could be a value play to keep an eye on.

Red Wings at Blue Jackets

Columbus has won 2 in a row against some very good teams. The Red Wings have pretty much all the money on them right now and the line is shifting in the right direction.

Flyers at Hurricanes

The Flyers have lost 4 in a row and Hurricanes have won 4 in a row. It’s usually time to sell on good and buy on bad and that’s what it seems like the money is doing in this one. But Carolina is 7-3 at home and Andrei Svetchnikov is playing great right now.

Ducks at Panthers

Bit of a trappy one here. The Panthers have won 4 of 5 including Tuesday’s trouncing of the Flyers. They are 5-2 at home and Anaheim has struggled a bit on the road. But the line movement is funky.

Flames at Blues

The Flames 5 game losing streak started with an OT loss to the Blues 12 days ago. They hope to break that streak by beating a Blues team that has lost 3 of 4 since that win. The Flames should right the ship and I like the value of them doing it tonight.

Canucks at Predators

I admittedly have not followed much of the Predators this season, but I can tell you this much: they have a bad record and a positive goal differential. This team can put up goals, but they’ve lost 5 in a row starting with that 9-4 trouncing by the Avalanche. Vancouver hasn’t been successful lately except with a lone win over Nashville a week ago. I think Nashville is bound to win one.

Avalanche at Wild

This is a weird one. Massive line shift against the Wild but money and public is on Colorado. The Avalanche are playing well lately but so have the Wild.

Lightning at Blackhawks

Only one book reporting here with Tampa Bay -150 and Chicago +130. Chicago has started to get things together before Tuesday’s stumble against the Hurricanes. Tamp Bay has yet to find the consistency they had last season.

Jets at Stars

The money is on Winnipeg and the line has gotten much better for them. Can’t explain this one. Both teams have won 4 of 5 and are playing well. Don’t trust this line and too chalky to jump on Dallas.

Maple Leafs at Coyotes

Just seems like everyone thinks the Maple Leafs will get out of their slump tonight. Just seems unlikely against a Coyotes team that has won 4 of 5 and is 6-4 at home.

Sharks at Golden Knights

Solid matchup here. The Golden Knights have put up 10 goals over their last two games after they were mired in a little slump. The Sharks are playing some solid hockey lately but got a big loss on Tuesday to the Oilers. San Jose is 3-7 on the road but most of those came in a stretch of a 5-game road trip.

Oilers at Kings

Very trappy one here. Line is getting better for Edmonton, but money is coming in on them. LA has been playing well lately.
