November 8th NBA and NHL Degeneracy

NBA

Grizzlies at Magic

Orlando finally cracked 100 points on the season and they return home to play a Grizzlies team that can put up some points. Ja Morant is averaging 20 points and 5 assists and he’s getting some help from Dillon Brooks who almost was traded by mistake last season. The Magic continue to be Vucevic and whenever Gordon decides to show up.

Cavs at Wizards

The Bullets have been blown out twice this season but otherwise have kept it close. They are 5-2 against the spread and are fully capable of beating a team like the Cavs. But Cleveland isn’t just rolling over this season so it makes it difficult to bet against them.

Pistons at Pacers

Some books reporting this as Pistons +7.5

The NBA schedule can be funny. We are only a few weeks into the season and this is the third time these teams are playing each other. Detroit has won both games so far. The Pacers have won 4 of 5 and other than an OT loss to the Hornets, they look to be on a better track as Oladipo gets closer to his return.

Kings at Hawks

After beating the Spurs, the Hawks laid an egg against the Bulls on Wednesday. Trae Young followed up his stunning return performance with an 0-8 from three point land game that doomed the Hawks and gave them their 4th loss on 5 games. The Kings lost a close one to the Raptors after consecutive wins.

Warriors at Timberwolves

Some books reporting this as Warriors +12

The T-Wolves welcomed Karl Anthony Towns back and did so with a big loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. The Warriors are coming off a big loss themselves and we still struggle to know which team will show up in a given night. I’d like to think Golden State can hang within 12 of Minnesota.

Raptors at Pelicans

The Pelicans have 2 surprise wins this season but otherwise are 2-4 against the spread. The Raptors are 3-1 against the spread as favorites. Some sharp money appears to be on New Orleans but I think this is a good line for the Raptors.

Knicks at Mavs

After hanging with the Celtics a few games ago, the Knicks have suffered back to back blowout losses. Dallas has shown they can beat lesser teams by a lot as demonstrated in their win over the Cavs. But they have not done well overall against the spread and are 0-4 at home against the spread.

Bucks at Jazz
Utah got a much needed win on Wednesday over the Sixers and now face another powerhouse from the East as Giannis and the Bucks continue their Western Conference road trip. They bring a 4 game winning streak and a 5-3 against the spread record versus Utah’s 2-6 against the spread. The Jazz defense will be put to the test. It’s hard to bet against a good home team getting points but the Bucks are such a damn good team. My issue is that it’s their third game on the road this week and they might start showing a little fatigue.

Sixers at Nuggets

Some books have this as Sixers +5.5

The Sixers welcomed back Joel Embiid and lost a close one to the Jazz on Wednesday. But as Embiid returns, Simmons exits. Ben will miss a few games with a shoulder injury. That gives the already deep Nuggets an even better chance of winning this one. But 5.5 is a tad high for me even without Simmons for Philly.

Nets at Blazers

Brooklyn hasn’t played since Monday when they got a big win over the Pelicans. Portland has lost 3 in a row and Lillard’s 30 points per game has not been enough to power them past good teams or even enough to beat a lowly Warriors team.

Heat at Lakers

The Heat are in a back to back after beating up on the Suns last night. The Lakers are 5-1 against the spread and are coming off a come from behind win over the Bulls the other day. I think people will jump on the Heat but I can see the Lakers flexing their muscles and wiping the floors with Miami.

NHL

Devils at Oilers

Maybe I was a day early on my Devils bet. I thought they’d get game 1 of their back to back but maybe they get game 2. Probably not. The Oilers have struggled but should be able to handle NJ.

Lightning at Sabres

Cool afternoon game for us since this game will take place over in Sweden. The Sabres have lost 3 in a row and maybe that’s indicative of how they are playing above their talent. The Lightning are playing well below their capabilities and their talent will catch up soon. But I think Buffalo is the value play today. The Lightning will becomes an elite team this season. Maybe.

Bruins at Red Wings

After losing 4 in a row including a big loss to the Rangers, Detroit is due for a win. Just won’t be today. Nice payout for them but not seeing the value.

Canucks at Jets

I’ve had some success with betting the Canucks this season and I like them again tonight. They’ve lost 2 in a row but the Jets are a very inconsistent team that can give up timely goals. Elias Patterson scores 2 goals last Saturday and has been blanked his last two games so it’s only a matter of time before he goes off.
