Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 1/22/22
NFL
LA Rams (2.5) vs. Tampa Bay (-2.5)
Spread: Bet $50 Tampa Bay
Total: Lean Over 47.5
Predicted Score: LA Rams 27 – Tampa Bay 31 (58)
Notes: These two teams match up for the second time this season. Last time they played, the Rams came out on top. But that was early in the season and a home game for the Rams.
The Rams’ defense predicates itself on getting QB pressure. And they did get to Tom with 3 sacks in their previous game.
But this man is notorious for getting rid of the ball quickly. And he also threw for 432 yards in that game. So don’t expect Tom to be phased like Kyler Murray was by the pass rush of Aaron Donald and crew.
For the Rams, they will need to try to replicate their offensive gameplan from last week. Try to establish the run with Akers and Michel. Don’t let Stafford make big mistakes. And if the Bucs try to neutralize Kupp, get OBJ and Higbee involved early and often.
The Bucs are banged up, sure, but they still have Mike Evans. He’s one of the top receivers in the league and will surely draw Jalen Ramsey’s attention tomorrow.
Tampa Bay also has Brady’s security blanket out there. And his connection with Gronk still remains amazing after all of these years.
I’d like to say the Rams have a chance to win this one because of the Tampa injuries. But I still cannot get there.
Let’s also remember that the Bucs were 8-1 at home this season.
Tampa should win this one and put up enough offense to cover.
$50 bet on the Bucs.
Buffalo (1.5) vs. Kansas City (-1.5)
Spread: Bet $50 Buffalo
Total: Lean Over 54
Predicted Score: Buffalo 29 – Kansas City 27 (56)
Notes: Well, this is it. This is the time that the Chiefs need to demonstrate which team they are. Are they the Super Bowl favorites they were entering the season? Or the uneven team we saw throughout this season.
Uneven or not, this team was still close to being the top seed in the AFC. When you have Patrick Mahomes, it does seem like his magic is enough to win games.
Only thing is, that magic seemed to be wearing off this season. His crazy shovel passes ended up in some INTs. His cute little lob passes are now getting tipped by defenders. And in general, he’s looked distracted many times this year.
On the other side of the field is a Bills team that is coming off an absolute slaughter of the Patriots. Josh Allen returned to his last season form and that Bills’ offense looked unstoppable against a solid Patriots’ defense.
KC’s defense had a very good season. So it will be interesting to see if Spags can adjust his gameplan should Buffalo’s offense start out strong like last week.
The Bills have not had much playoff success on the road – losing their last 8 road playoff games. That includes a 38-24 loss in Kansas City just a year ago in the Conference Championship game.
Let’s rewind to the last time these teams played. It was fairly early in the season while the Chiefs were just a .500 team and extremely vulnerable. It was not the team that went on to win 9 of 10 games to close out the regular season.
Still, Buffalo managed to put up 38 points on KC and their defense held the Chiefs to 20. Mahomes had 2 INTs in that game and the Chiefs had 4 total turnovers. If Buffalo can do that again, they will get another shot at the AFC Championship.
I do have the Bills coming out with a win here. But it’s close. So to be safe, a $50 bet with the points on the Buffalo Bills.
NBA
IND (12.5) at PHX (-12.5)
Pick: Bet $10 IND +12.5
Total: 218 (Lean Over – 225)
Predicted Score: IND 114 – PHX 111
Notes: Fresh off an unpredictable OT win over the Warriors, the Indiana Pacers continue their road trip tonight in Phoenix. The Suns are returning home after a long road trip in which they have won 5 games in a row.
The Suns, of course, are a great home team – posting a 17-5 record at home. Indy has not had much success on the road. Despite winning two consecutive road games – the Pacers are just 5-17 on the road this year.
So yeah, maybe I am a maniac for taking them today – but I am not that crazy since I will take the points in this one. I am seeing a lot of value with the Pacers – particularly with Deandre Ayton still injured for Phoenix – but with the injuries to Sabonis and Levert, I cannot do my typical moneyline play.
So a $10 bet on the Pacers with the points.

Predicted Score: SAC 106 – MIL 112

Predicted Score: OKC 106 – CLE 113
