Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 1/4/22

NBA

Sports Bet Picks for 1/4/22

SAC (7.5) at LAL (-7.5)

Pick: Bet $10 SAC ML

Total: 228.5 (Lean Under – 219)

Predicted Score: SAC 107 – LAL 112

Notes: The Lakers have managed to win 2 games in a row – beating up on Portland and then winning a close one over Minnesota.

So a matchup against the lowly Kings fits into their MO of beating sub .500 teams. Only, I think this could be a tough one for them.

Sacramento is only 6-10 on the road and they have lost their last 4 games. At home, they have played a bit better – winning 3 of their last 4 games.

And looking at the numbers, yeah, LA should win this one. But I see value in jumping on the Kings here.

The Kings have some good guards and Westbrook has been indifferent to playing defense at times. If the Kings can establish the tempo offensively, the Lakers could be put in a spot to play catch up.

The last time these teams played, LA easily beat them. But they had Anthony Davis in the lineup. He’s not there anymore. Instead, they have Dwight Howard and Deandre Jordan.

Even though the Kings will be without Richaun Holmes, they have Damian Jones and Tristan Thompson in the middle – who should be able to neutralize the Lakers big men.

The x-factor, of course, is LeBron. If he does play – which I expect him to – he can carry LA to a win over the Kings. But I am reminded of the first time these team faced off this season.

LeBron gave it his all and the Kings pushed the Lakers to 3 OTs – winning the game by 4.

So even with LeBron playing MVP, the Lakers are able to lose games against shitty teams.

$10 moneyline bet on the Kings.

NHL

Sports Bet Picks for 1/4/22

San Jose Sharks (-110) at Detroit Red Wings (-110)

Pick: Bet $10 San Jose

Notes: By all accounts, these two teams are surprisingly good this season. San Jose and Detroit are fringe playoff teams at the moment.

But can they sustain that during the stretch? That’s definitely the question.

The Sharks have started their post-Covid break winning 2 of 3 games. While their offense has looked good, their defense has looked dreadful.

So if they have playoff aspirations, they need to stop bleeding goals.

The Red Wings are 0-2 since returning and have not looked good at all. They are a young team and are bound to go through lulls.

Their goaltending could be a strength if Nedeljkovic gets the start. Or it could be terrible if Greiss is in the crease.

I believe the former will get the start tonight but San Jose should grab the win.

$10 bet on the Sharks.

Philadelphia Flyers (115) at Anaheim Ducks (-135)

Pick: Bet $10 Anaheim

Notes: The Ducks have limped out of the gate since coming back from the break – losing 3 in a row. Granted, going on the road to Vegas and Colorado is not a fun way to kick off a return to hockey.

For Philly, they have lost two in a row – including a 6-3 beatdown by the Kings on New Year’s Day. Carter Hart remains out on Covid protocols and until he’s back, this team is in trouble.

Anaheim’s offense is capable of putting up some goals and I like the coming back home today to put on a show against a Philly team that is on game 4 of their road trip.

Now granted, being in California is nicer than the cold of the East Coast right now – but I am sure they would rather be playing in front of their home crowd right now.

I think the Ducks get it done today and get their first post-Covid break win.

$10 bet on the Ducks.
