Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 10/18/21
Max’s Week 6 Touchdown
Point 1: Mediocre Nevermore?
The Ravens beat the Chargers 34-6. It’s a shocking final score for a Chargers team that we’ve all been high up on. The Ravens? Have not been a favorite team on this show.
But this big win could change a few things. Lamar didn’t have a good game as a QB but he once again helped move the ball on the ground as the Ravens out-rushed the Chargers 187-26.
That allowed the Ravens to dominate the time of possession and put them in good field position all game.
I still don’t love the Ravens. But we need to pay attention for sure.
Point 2: Murray Missed the Message
This was supposed to be the week that Kyler Murray had a down week. Apparently no one told him. Murray was 20-30 for 229 and 4 TDs.
The Browns have now lost 2 in a row and are 3-3 through 6 games. They host the Broncos on a short week this Thursday and cannot afford to lose that one.
For Arizona, they get the Texans next week and then Green Bay on a short week after that.
Point 3: #1 Again
Trevor Lawrence was drafted #1 in this past draft but had yet to look like a #1 pick. On this Sunday, he finally looked the part. Lawrence led the Jags to a win with 319 yards, 1 TD and no INTs.
He outplayed his peers as Davis Mills, Mac Jones and Justin Fields all had some issues. Trey Lance had the week off and doesn’t seem to be a lock to start this season. So it could be Lawrence’s ranking to lose.
Point 4: Another Weird one for Seattle
It always seems like the Seahawks have weird things happen at the end of their games. Well, add yesterday to the mix. With about 17 seconds left, a sideline catch was punched out as a fumble, the Seahawks recovered the fumble and ran over the spike the ball.
It seemed like 1 second was left but the clock expired in the stadium. It was pointless anyway since apparently, the catch and fumble was already called for review so the clock technically should have stopped at 3 seconds.
Long story short, Seattle tied the game, went to OT and lost because TJ Watt punched the ball out of Geno Smith’s hands.
Point 5: No INT for you
As if the rules weren’t already stacked to help QBs, one player’s mom wants the NFL to change the rules of what counts as an INT.
Now I don’t want to embarrass this player any further so I won’t say his name.
The player in question ended up with 397 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs. One of the INTs slipped through the hands of his wife receiver and that caused his mom to go to Twitter.
His team did end up beating the Washington Football Team 31-13. So good game, Mahomes. Oops.
Point 6: Going for 0-17
The Jaguars won in London to avoid going winless this season. But the Lions are still in play. After being embarrassed by the Bengals this past week, coach Dan Campbell said that “Jared Goff needs to do more.”
No shit! Welcome to my previous hell there Dan! The Lions’ former QB went 22-28 for 251 yards, and 4 TDs for his new team. So, um, thanks and see you next week.
Extra Point: Bear Owner
Aaron Rodgers had a good game. And the Packers beat the Bears. He even ran in for a TD. Good job buddy.
After his rushing TD he screamed “I’ve always fucking owned you.” Which apparently is OK by the NFL and not against their new taunting rules.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m fine with it. The taunting rules are stupid. If a player wants to say that, go ahead. But did Rodgers need to say it?
Wouldn’t a simple dropping of the ball, looking at the crowd and soaking in the boos be badass enough?
You don’t have to be a douche bag to be a villain. Right now, Rodgers is both.
NFL Week 6 Monday Night Football
Buffalo (-6) vs. Tennessee (6)
Spread: Lean Buffalo
Total: Lean Over 53
Predicted Score: Buffalo 31 – Tennessee 24 (55)
Notes: The Bills have won 4 games in a row after dropping their season opening to the Steelers. They head on the road to Tennessee to take on a Titans team that should have a stranglehold on the AFC South but with a loss today, could see things tighter with the Colts than expected.
It’s been a slew of injuries that have hampered the Titans this season. And while they are still a bit banged up, they are getting healthier each game. They could see that injury toll rise today as they face an aggressive Bills defense.
Titans’ QB Ryan Tannehill has been sacked 20 times this season – which is the most in the league. The Bills will be blitzing a lot today so expect that number to increase as well.
Led by the best back in the game, Derek Henry, Tennessee is second in the league in rushing. But they play a Bills defense that is currently ranked 2nd best in the league. Henry should still be able to get his – but he will have to work for it. And if the Bills offense can exploit a mediocre Tennessee defense, the Titans could be playing from behind and need to abandon the run.
I like the Bills to go on the road and win this one. I even have them covering. But I can only lean Buffalo here. It’s too many points for a road favorite in a Monday night game.
I also like the over here but my totals have been just OK lately. So I will back off that and only lean the over.
HOU (106) at BOS (-115)
Pitchers: J. Urquidy (ERA: 3.69 – Road ERA: 3.96 – Avg. ML: -142) vs. E. Rodriguez (ERA: 5.18 – Home ERA: 6.26 – Avg. ML: -113)
Pick: Bet $10 Boston
Notes: Boston split the first two games in Houston and now have home field advantage in this 7-game series. If they can win the next two at home, it will be Houston on the brink of elimination. But before we get there, let’s see if Boston can win this first game.
They will put Rodriguez on the mound. He pitched decently in the Tampa series and should give the Red Sox a solid 4 innings or so to start the game. As for Houston, they will throw Urquidy on the mound. He has not pitched in awhile but he has had some previous success over the Red Sox this season.
I do think this game comes down to the offense though. These are the two best offenses in the playoffs so far but the Red Sox still beat Houston in runs scored, batting average and on-base percentage. Heading back home with a chance to get the series lead, you have to imagine this team is going to come out swinging today.
I like Boston to get the win today. $10 bet on the Red Sox.
Seattle Kraken (115) at Philadelphia Flyers (-135)
Pick: Bet $10 Seattle
Notes: The Kraken have played some good hockey through their first games. They took an OT loss to the Blue Jackets the other day but I like them to bounce back on the road today as they head to Philly. The Flyers lost to Vancouver to kick off their season as Carter Hart did not look his sharpest. Hart has the potential to be a good goalie but if that defense allows too many shots on goal, he seems to give up a bit as the game goes on.
I like Seattle to get to him today and get the win so a $10 bet on the Kraken.
New York Rangers (165) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-185)
Pick: Lean New York Rangers
Anaheim Ducks (165) at Calgary Flames (-185)
Pick: Lean Calgary
St. Louis Blues (-165) at Arizona Coyotes (145)
Pick: Lean Arizona
