Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 11/8/21
Max’s Week 9 Touchdown
Point 1: Just Joshing
Josh Allen had a bad day. Except, Josh Allen had a good day. That’s right. Josh Allen looked like shit yesterday mostly because Josh Allen made his day miserable. Josh Allen threw 2 INTs in the Bills’ loss to the Jags yesterday. One of those INTs was thrown to Josh Allen. Josh Allen was sacked 4 times. And one of those was to Josh Allen. Josh Allen also lost a fumble yesterday. You know you recovered it? Josh Allen.
After yesterday I would have to say that Josh Allen deserves to be called Josh Allen while Josh Allen should change his name to something awful. Like Same Darnold.
Point 2: Same Old Sam
Speaking of Sam Darnold, he did live up to his name yesterday as he had yet another shit day. The Patriots defense continued to make his life miserable – continuing a trend from his seasons on the Jets. Darnold threw for 172 yards and 3 INTs. Even with his security blanket of Christian McCaffrey back he did not look good out there. Maybe that early season success was a manifestation of beating up on some slow-to-start defenses. Either way, Sam is back to form.
On the other side, Mac Jones didn’t really look great either. But it didn’t matter. New England ran all over the Panthers’ defense and easily beat Carolina 24-6 to improve to 5-4 on the season.
Point 3: Everybody Hurts Sometimes
I was confident that the Eagles would get their first home win of the season. They played the Chargers tough but came up short at end of the game. Jalen Hurts had a pretty good game but it was Justin Herbert who stole the show as he shook of consecutive bad outings to throw for 356 yards with 2 TDs.
With the win, LA managed to stay atop a crowded AFC West but with 4 division games left, the Chargers still have a chance to Charger things up there.
Point 4: No Love for Green Bay
Speaking of the AFC West, the Chiefs got a win yesterday increasing their streak to 2 whole games. 2 whole games where they looked like the Broncos. And yesterday, Spags’ defense also resembled the Denver defense out there – limiting the Packers to 7 points.
7 fucking points that ruined the goddamn spread.
But I digress.
Jordan Love did not “wow” in his debut but guess what, his 190 yards was still 24 more yards than Patrick Mahomes threw. Maybe Reid took our Alex Smith suggestion literally. Because Mahomes – who used to throw 166 in a quarter – looked very Alex Smith out there for most of the game.
For Green Bay, they should welcome back their greasy-haired savior next week after his Joe Rogan medical treatment is completed.
Point 5: Colt 249
The Arizona Cardinals did not have star QB Kyler Murray out there yesterday. Instead, backup Colt McCoy threw for 249 yards and led the Cardinals to a win over division rival 49ers. It also helped that the Arizona offense rushed for 163 yards.
Arizona improved to 8-1 on the season with the win and looks to be in great position to win the NFC West. The Niners – on the other hand – are 3-5 including and Eagles-esque 0-4 at home this season. Jimmy G. had a decent enough game yesterday – which means he probably gets the start in the next game – leaving this team further in limbo.
Point 6: AOK without OBJ
Baker Mayfield tossed 2 TDs and Nick Chubb rushed for 137 yards as the Cleveland Browns dominated their division rival Bengals 41-16. Each team is 5-4 on the year. For Cincinnati, it was their second loss in a row and Joe Burrow has dropped off after a hot start.
For the Browns, it was a good win as they moved on past the OBJ drama but with a road game at New England next week, they will have no time to celebrate.
Extra Point: Who Shit the Bed the Most?
I have a new segment for the show called Who Shit the Bed the Most? The nominees for this week.
The aforementioned Buffalo Bills who lost to the fucking Jaguars 6-9 (nice) yesterday. That loss opened the door for the Patriots to win the AFC East, it showed huge flaws in the Buffalo offense and it also possibly proved Arch’s predicted of Josh Allen’s regression to be a correct one.
Option #2: The Dallas Cowboys who lost at home 30-16 to the Denver Broncos. A “rusty” Dak Prescott did not get that offense going but in general, it seemed like Dallas was looking to cruise against the Broncos and got punched in the mouth. Bridgewater looked good out there and Denver’s running game looked prolific against that Dallas defense.
Option #3: Jared Goff and the Rams. I mean, Sam Bradford and the Rams. I mean, wait, was that Matt Stafford out there yesterday? After the opening drive where the Rams settled for a field goal I had a bad feeling about the game. But the defense looked good at first. Until Stafford threw an INT. And then another. And the Rams found themselves in a deficit. It all went down the drain from there.
Some awful losses to three contenders that leaves us scratching our heads. Even Tampa – in a bye week – is coming off a bad loss to the Saints. So at this point, the favorite to win it all is … the Titans?
NFL Monday Night Football
Chicago (6.5) vs. Pittsburgh (-6.5)
Spread: Lean Chicago
Total: Lean Under 40
Predicted Score: Chicago 15 – Pittsburgh 19 (34)
Notes: The Steelers have won 3 games in a row and have kept themselves afloat in the AFC North. Considering that Baltimore oscillates between looking like a dominant team and a team that needs OT to beat the fucking Vikings, maybe there is a chance to sneak out the division.
On the other side of the field will be a Bears team that has lost 3 games in a row. After upsetting the Raiders on the road, there was some hope that Matt Nagy could turn things around and not get fired. But rest assured, he will be fired. And a bad loss tonight on Monday Night Football could be the catalyst to get him out the door.
I do have the Steelers winning and it is possible they end up covering. But its still a team I cannot trust right now. A lean on the Bears.
NYK (4.5) at PHI (-4.5)
Pick: $10 ML Bet PHI
Total: 210.5 (Lean Over – 215)
Predicted Score: NYK 105 – PHI 110
Notes: I was on Cleveland with the moneyline yesterday and they produced the upset over New York. And now the Knicks hit the road to Philly where the Sixers are 4-1 this season. Philly has been dealing with injuries but that has not stopped them from going 8-2 to start the year after winning 6 straight.
I like them to make that 7 straight today. So $10 moneyline bet on Philly.
BKN (2) at CHI (-2)
Pick: $10 ML Bet BKN
Total: 214.5 (Lean Under – 208)
Predicted Score: BKN 106 – CHI 102
Notes: Seeing Brooklyn +2 to the Bulls had me wondering if there was a typo on the screen. But no, the Nets are a dog today and it makes them a nice moneyline play for me. Brooklyn has won 5 in a row and Harden is starting to round into shape.
The Bulls are coming off consecutive losses to the Sixers – making you wonder if they are ready to be part of the Eastern Conference elite teams just yet. I say no. And I say Brooklyn gets the win.
$10 moneyline bet on the Nets.
MIA (-2.5) at DEN (2.5)
Pick: Bet $10 ML MIA
Total: 205.5 (Lean Under – 204)
Predicted Score: MIA 105 – DEN 99
Notes: A team I do put at the top of the Eastern Conference elite is the Miami Heat. Miami has looked really good to start the year – taking out that shitshow against the Celtics a few days back, of course. And it has not just been at home. They are 3-1 on the road early in the season and looking ready to make a run back to the championship.
Kyle Lowry has been a nice addition to the team but its still Bam and Jimmy as the main attractions. For Denver, Jokic is once again a one-man show and looking like his prior MVP self. I just think Miami has too much for Denver to handle tonight.
$10 moneyline bet on the Heat.
PHX (-2.5) at SAC (2.5)
Pick: Bet $10 ML SAC
Total: 222.5 (Lean Under – 219)
Predicted Score: PHX 110 – SAC 109
Notes: The Suns will be without Deandre Ayton which could put their 4-game winning streak in jeopardy today. Sacramento is coming off a loss yesterday that dropped them to .500 on the season. The Kings are a very uneven team but when everything is clicking, they can keep up with the best scoring teams in the league.
I’m hoping they can keep up with the Suns today. $10 moneyline bet on the Kings.
ATL (3.5) at GSW (-3.5)
Pick: Bet $10 ML GSW
Total: 222 (Lean Under – 215)
Predicted Score: ATL 101 – GSW 114
Notes: Right now, it is hard not to argue that the Warriors are the best team in basketball. Now granted, in their 4-game winning streak, they have beaten up on some lesser teams. But their lone loss this year was an OT game against a tough Grizzlies team.
The Hawks have lost 3 in a row and have dealt with some injuries as John Collins is banged up. They also have had a brutal schedule as of late and cannot find a groove on the road – going 1-5 to start the year.
I like the Warriors to get the win today and increase the Hawks’ road woes. $10 moneyline bet on Golden State.
MIN (5.5) at MEM (-5.5)
Pick: Lean MIN
Total: 218.5 (Lean Under – 215)
Predicted Score: MIN 109 – MEM 106
NOP (9.5) at DAL (-9.5)
Pick: Lean NOP
Total: 210.5 (Lean Over – 212)
Predicted Score: NOP 103 – DAL 109
CHA (2.5) at LAL (-2.5)
Pick: Lean LAL
Total: 224.5 (Lean Under – 222)
Predicted Score: CHA 108 – LAL 114
Florida Panthers (-115) at New York Rangers (-105)
Pick: Bet $10 Florida
Notes: The Panthers are arguably the best team in hockey. After handling the Hurricanes on Saturday, that argument got a little stronger. They head on the road today to New York to play a Rangers team that was off to a good start but stumbled on their road trip.
New York – losers of 3 in a row – did not fair well in Canada but return home where they left off shutting out Columbus. The Blue Jackets are a decent enough team but Florida will put up more shots on goal and will test Shesterkin a lot.
I like the Panthers to grab the win today. $10 bet on Florida.
Buffalo Sabres (210) at Washington Capitals (-265)
Pick: Lean Washington
Los Angeles Kings (215) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-270)
Pick: Lean Toronto
