Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 12/13/21
Max’s NFL Week 14 Touchdown
Point 1: NFL Bowl Games
I figure college football can have stupid bowl names so the NFL can too. Here are some of the notable ones from Sunday.
In the “Top Drafted QB Throws 4 Picks” bowl, the Titans beat the Jaguars 20-0.
The fate of Urban Meyer will come into question after this loss as any further involvement with Trevor Lawrence could result in a Jared Goff situation.
Speaking off Goff, the Broncos beat the hapless Lions 38-10 in the “why the fuck do I ever bet on the Lions?” bowl.
In the “Holy Fuck, do the Chiefs actually have a Good Defense” bowl, Kansas City snuck out a win over Vegas – beating them 48-9.
Mahomes had a pretty solid game but once again it was the defense and running game that won KC their 6th game in a row.
The Saints beat the Jets 30-9 in the “Alvin Kamara had no signs of rust” bowl.
The Seahawks won 33-13 over the Texans in the “Whoever picked Rashaad Penny and Tyler Lockett in DFS probably won this week” bowl.
And the Chargers beat the Giants 37-21 in the “Saquon Barkley farewell tour” bowl.
Point 2: Did I mention these were all blowouts?
So yeah, if you missed it, the point of point 1 was to highlight how ridiculous some of these games were yesterday.
7 games were decided by double digits. 9 were decided by double digits last week.
So maybe just eating the chalk is the right move right now.
Because did I also mention, fuck the Lions?
Point 3: The Ravens Are In Trouble
Not only did they lose to the Browns yesterday in a critical divisional matchup but they also lost Lamar Jackson to an ankle injury.
The injury appears to be only a sprain and Tyler Huntley got them in a position to win this game.
But it still must not feel great in that locker room right now. They have lost 2 in a row and both the Browns and Bengals could leapfrog them for the AFC North.
If there is a time for Lamar to take a late season shit to propel them into the playoffs, its now.
Point 4: A Close on in Tampa
The Bills made the game interesting – tying it up with the Bucs and forcing OT. But Brady would not be denied.
He connected with Breshad Perriman for a game winning, 58-yard TD. That improved the Bucs to 10-3 on the year and a stellar 6-0 at home.
For Buffalo, they are a 7-6 team stuck in the muddled mess that is the AFC playoff picture hunt. I guess they can fondly remember that one season in 2020 where the Patriots had a down year.
Point 5: An Even Closer One in Cincinnati
Another OT game saw the 49ers steal a win in OT over the Bengals. Cincinnati had a chance, with the Ravens’ loss, to take over the AFC North.
But I guess they figured that it wasn’t that important to do that.
The Bengals got the ball first in OT and scored the field goal to take the lead.
But the Niners marched down the field and Brandon Aiyuk scored the game winning TD to secure a 26-23 win.
San Francisco improved to 5-2 on the road this season and if you are an NFC team right now, it’s a team I would not want to face in a first round playoff matchup.
They have some winnable games in their final 4. So let’s see if they can sneak their way in.
Point 6: So I bet the Under
Yeah, I bet the under in the Bears/Packers game and boy howdy was I wrong. Green Bay won the game 45-30 and improved to 10-3 on the year.
The Bears actually went into the half with the lead but only scored 3 points in the second half. The loss dropped them to 4-9 on the season – which is tied for the second worst record in the NFC.
Extra Point: Demaryius’ Delay of Game
The Denver Broncos honored the late Demaryius Thomas by lining up only 10 players on offense and leaving his wide receiver spot empty.
This resulted in a delay of game that the Lions promptly declined.
Thomas was born on Christmas day in 1987 and had a very good career – mostly with Denver. He also spent some time in New England, Houston and the Jets.
Alongside Eric Decker, Thomas provided Peyton Manning with two great options at wide receiver. He had a hell of a first Super Bowl game, despite the Broncos getting routed by Seattle.
In his second Super Bowl appearance with Denver, he had only one catch for 8 yards but still ended up on the winning side.
He ended his career with 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns. Not too bad for a kid who witnessed his mom arrested during a police raid and could have followed in similar footsteps.
And that’s Max’s Week 14 touchdown.
NFL Week 14 Monday Night Football
LA Rams (2.5) vs. Arizona (-2.5)
Spread: Lean Arizona
Total: Bet $50 Over 51.50
Predicted Score: LA Rams 27 – Arizona 30 (57)
Notes: The Cardinals have 2 losses on the year. They also both happen to be home losses. Can the Rams help make that 3?
I don’t think so. But it should be a close one for sure.
Division games are always weird ones. And Arizona plays in some weird games in general.
The last time these teams played was in Week 4 and the Cardinals dominated LA. The Rams went on to win 4 games in a row after that before suffering a 3-game losing streak.
LA got things right last week against the Jaguars and I think that momentum carries to their offense this week. The Cardinals are a very good defense – ranking 5th in the league.
But still, I like the Rams to keep up with Arizona and ultimately lose a close one. A lean on Arizona to cover but where I will put my money is on the over.
Monday night. Division up for grabs. Two teams that can put up points. I am hoping this is a fun one.
MIA (5) at CLE (-5)
Pick: Bet $10 CLE
Total: 209 (Lean Over – 215)
Predicted Score: MIA 103 – CLE 112
Notes: It’s hard not to like how Cleveland has played this season and how they are the hottest team ATS in the NBA at the moment. That’s some basic thinking right there and probably what’s bound to doom me today.
The Heat will be without Butler and Bam. They’ve won games in this situation before but on the road and against such a front-loaded team, I just am not sure they have the healthy bodies to keep up here.
$10 moneyline bet on the Cavs.
HOU (11.5) at ATL (-11.5)
Pick: Bet $10 HOU
Total: 225.5 (Lean Over – 223)
Predicted Score: HOU 112 – ATL 111
Notes: I took a flyer on Houston last week against the Bucks and for most of that game, it was a solid bet. The Bucks ended up winning at the end but still, it was a nice lottery ticket.
This is a nice lottery ticket too.
I get it. Houston is a putrid 1-12 on the road this season and have dropped two in a row. They were on a hot streak last week so its not hard to imagine they can sneak out a win today.
Atlanta is a .500 team and plays some close games. They play much better at home than on the road and their effective field goal % shows that.
I just think there is just too much value on the Rockets here. $10 moneyline bet on Houston.
MIL (1.5) at BOS (-1.5)
Pick: Lean MIL
Total: 217.5 (Lean Under – 208)
Predicted Score: MIL 106 – BOS 102
CHA (3) at DAL (-3)
Pick: Lean CHA
Total: 219.5 (Lean Over – 225)
Predicted Score: CHA 113 – DAL 112
GSW (-4) at IND (4)
Pick: Lean IND
Total: 213.5 (Lean Under – 209)
Predicted Score: GSW 105 – IND 104
SAC (4.5) at TOR (-4.5)
Pick: Lean SAC
Total: 220.5 (Lean Under – 214)
Predicted Score: SAC 105 – TOR 109
PHI (-3) at MEM (3)
Pick: Lean MEM
Total: 210 (Lean Under – 210)
Predicted Score: PHI 100 – MEM 110
WAS (4.5) at DEN (-4.5)
Pick: Lean DEN
Total: 215.5 (Lean Over – 221)
Predicted Score: WAS 108 – DEN 113
PHX (-3.5) at LAC (3.5)
Pick: Lean LAC
Total: 212.5 (Lean Over – 214)
Predicted Score: PHX 106 – LAC 108
Calgary Flames (-145) at Chicago Blackhawks (125)
Pick: Bet $10 Calgary
Notes: The Flames have not been playing very good hockey lately. Losers of 4 in a row, they look to get right against a Chicago team that cannot hang with the better teams in the league.
The Blackhawks had a win in their grasps on Saturday against Toronto only to let a big lead slip away in the final period. Chicago has played better hockey lately – compared to their dreadful start.
But many of their wins have been close ones and as mentioned, against the lesser competition in the NHL.
Calgary is one of the better teams in the league. Yeah, they are slumping. Some of that is balancing out their incredibly hot start.
They are still a very talented team and should get it together today.
$10 bet on the Flames.
