Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 4/12/22
MLB
BOS (-122) at DET (104)
Pick: Bet $10 DET
Notes: The Tigers took game 1 in the series yesterday and I should be apprehensive about betting them today but it looks like the play.
Boston’s bats have started the season cold and Rich Hill isn’t the pitching hill you really want to die on.
As a Mets fan, trust me, I know.
Detroit’s offense has not been good to start off the year but I think they can get enough against Hill and the Red Sox pitchers to sneak out another win today.
$10 bet on Detroit.
CLE (-122) at CIN (104)
Pick: Bet $10 CLE
Notes: Shane Bieber gets his second chance at a win as he matches up against another of Panther’s favorite pitchers, Tyler Mahle.
The Reds spilt a 4-game series with the Braves to start the season. Which isn’t a terrible way to start the season.
The Guardians did the same by taking the final 2 games in the series against the Royals.
Cleveland’s offense has started off strong. Or it could be I overestimated the Royals’ pitching staff.
I think they have the pitching match-up and the hotter bats so they are my play for today.
$10 bet on Cleveland.
TOR (110) at NYY (-130)
Pick: Bet $10 NYY
Notes: I was on the Blue Jays yesterday and the KOD hit for us. Now it’s time to shift allegiances and back the Evil Empire of the Bronx.
If you download and listen to every single episode, you would know my feelings about Toronto’s starter Kikuchi.
Granted, maybe a change of scenery will do him so good.
But still, he is a very hittable pitcher and could be what the Yankees need to get their offense going.
That offense was blanked yesterday with Manoah pitching a 6-inning gem.
Another former Mariners’ pitcher will be starting for the Yankees as Nestor Cortes will get the nod today.
He had a fairly good year in his starts last season so it will be interesting to see if he can keep providing some solid innings.
That seems to be a theme for the Yankees starters. Outside of Cole, they are just trying to limit the damage to let the bullpen do the rest.
So if Cortes holds the Blue Jays’ bats in check, the Yankees should get the win today.
That’s what I am banking on.
$10 bet on the Yankees.
MIA (142) at LAA (-168)
Pick: Bet $10 MIA
Notes: The Marlins’ offense continues to be dreadful and today they put on one of their worst pitchers.
Yet I still kind of like them today with this big plus line.
The Angels have not necessarily been lighting it up to start the season.
The 6 runs yesterday was an indicator of what this offense can do. But they did that on 7 hits – 2 of which were homers that contributed 4 of those runs.
So this team could be dependent on the longball.
Patrick Sandoval will get the start for the Angels today and he’s coming off a pretty good 2021 season.
Still, this is a guy that struggles at times and doesn’t find himself in the win column often.
I think the Marlins have a chance to grab a win from him today.
$10 bet on Miami.

SEA (118) at CWS (-138)
Pick: Lean CWS
CHC (-120) at PIT (102)
Pick: Lean PIT
OAK (184) at TB (-220)
Pick: Lean TB
NYM (140) at PHI (-166)
Pick: Lean NYM
MIL (-165) at BAL (145)
Pick: Lean BAL
WSH (135) at ATL (-155)
Pick: Lean WSH
LAD (-142) at MIN (120)
Pick: Lean LAD
KC (152) at STL (-180)
Pick: Lean KC
COL (134) at TEX (-158)
Pick: Lean TEX
HOU (-158) at ARI (134)
Pick: Lean HOU
SD (-110) at SF (-106)
Pick: Lean SF
NBA
LAC (3) at MIN (-3)
Pick: Bet $10 LAC ML
Total: 230.5 (Lean Over – 250)
Predicted Score: LAC 130 – MIN 120
Notes: The Clippers closed the season out with a 5-game winning streak. Paul George is healthy and there’s even rumors that Kawhi could return if the Clippers can buy him some more time.
He won’t be there tonight which means PG13 needs to be at his best to knock off KAT and the T-Wolves.
Minnesota was an impressive 26-15 at home this season and are entering the play-in games as healthy as they’ve been all season.
This should be a very good game but ultimately, I think the Clippers come out on top.
They proved they have a deep team as they played competitive basketball without their star players and still managed to get to this point.
$10 moneyline bet on the Clippers.
Leans
CLE (8) at BKN (-8)
Pick: Lean CLE
Total: 228.5 (Lean Over – 233)
Predicted Score: CLE 114 – BKN 119
Notes: Not much to say on this one. Brooklyn should win and move on to the 7th seed to a first round date with the Celtics.
Former Net, Jarrett Allen, still remains out for the Cavs. And that spells bad news.
When Allen was on the floor for this team, their frontcourt looked insanely impressive – outrebounding teams on most nights and leading to some transition scoring.
Since losing him, this has not been the same team.
Cleveland is just 19-22 on the road this season – going 1-4 over their last 5 road games.
In there was a road loss to Brooklyn just a few games ago.
More of the same today.
I’ll lean the Cavs with the points but Brooklyn could end up covering.
NHL
Carolina Hurricanes (-134) at New York Rangers (112)
Pick: Bet $10 Carolina
Notes: The Rangers have won 3 in a row and improved to a very good 24-7-4 home record.
Carolina has not been playing their best hockey but they are still a dangerous team.
Igor Shesterkin is listed as the probable starter today for the Rangers but I get the feeling that with this line, he will be held back and start tomorrow’s game instead.
Without him, I do think the Hurricanes become the play.
$10 bet on Carolina.
Pittsburgh Penguins (-120) at New York Islanders (100)
Pick: Bet $10 Pittsburgh
Notes: The Penguins broke their losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Predators a few days back. Now they hit the road to take on an Islanders team that is coming home after a long road trip.
That road trip closed out with a 6-1 beatdown by the Blues.
I’d like to say returning home will be nice for them but the Penguins could do the same to them today.
Sid came back to the lineup in that Nashville game and promptly scored 2 goals and an assist – reminding us that even though he’s no longer a kid, he’s still a potent scorer.
With him in the lineup, I like this Penguins team a lot more.
So I’ll back him and Pittsburgh today with a $10 bet.
Vegas Golden Knights (-140) at Vancouver Canucks (116)
Pick: Bet $10 Vegas
Notes: The Canucks have won 3 in a row and with their last win, got above .500 at home this season.
That could quickly dissipate as the red hot Golden Knights are in town.
The Canucks got the best of the Golden Knights less than a week ago – getting 5 goals on Robin Lehner.
I don’t think they do the same today.
Other than that loss, Lehner and the Golden Knights have been playing some elite hockey.
And I expect them to revenge that loss today.
$10 bet on Vegas.

Buffalo Sabres (385) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-520)
