Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 4/13/22
MLB
WSH (172) at ATL (-205)
Pick: Bet $10 WSH
Notes: These two teams have traded punches through two games.
The Nationals put up 11 on the Braves in game 1 and Atlanta put up 16 yesterday.
Which means either team is capable of big offensive outburst.
So looking at a big plus line for Washington, it’s a play that I can’t resist.
Josiah Gray got beaten up in his last start. And his WHIP is super concerning.
But Max Fried also struggled last time out. It’s easy to say he will bounce back today but there was some concerns about him during the pre-season.
So maybe both teams score double digits today.
The value is on Washington though.
$10 bet on the Nationals.
CLE (110) at CIN (-130)
Pick: Bet $10 CLE
Notes: I try not to double dip but it’s back to the Guardians today.
They’ve had 3 straight games of scoring double digit runs and they get a chance to tee off against a rookie pitcher today.
Nick Lodolo was called up to make his MLB debut. He was the #7 Pick in draft and spent 2021 between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville.
He had a 2.31 ERA and a 38.8% strike out rate.
So expectations are high for him.
But some of those expectations should be tempered with the shoulder and finger blister issues he dealt with last season as well.
Hard to tell if this will be a spot start or the beginning of his official career.
If the latter, I imagine there will be a pitch count set for him. And then the Guardians can get to that Reds’ bullpen.
$10 bet on Cleveland.
BOS (-122) at DET (104)
Pick: Bet $10 BOS
Notes: A reverse double-dip. I took Detroit yesterday and whiffed on that Pick.
So instead of chasing waterfalls, I’ll jump on Boston today.
Eduardo Rodriguez will get a shot at his former team as he matches up against Nathan Eovaldi.
Neither pitcher had a good first outing but the hope in Boston is that Eovaldi can settle in like he did last season.
While the Red Sox have struggled overall as an offense, a player to watch is Rafael Devers.
He’s hitting .381 right now and after signing a 1-year deal to avoid arbitration, the man has got to be motivated to show that he’s an integral part of the Sox lineup.
I think that offense will Pick up at some point around Devers and Eovaldi has a bit more upside that Rodriguez.
So my play is on the Red Sox to close out this series with a win.
$10 bet on Boston.
KC (132) at STL (-156)
Pick: Bet $10 KC
Notes: The combined age of the starters in this game is 78 years. Or, you know, just a year older than former Cardinals, and current White Sox, manager Tony La Russa.
Honestly, I am looking forward to this matchup. I like the homecoming story for Greinke and Wainwright defying age is something I love to see.
I thought KC was the play yesterday but resisted. Because I was saving up for today with Zack on the mound!
The Royals have not looked good offensively to start the season. Salvy Perez is still out there hitting homers but not hitting much else.
Pitching has been a problem too but this is where I like Greinke to keep them in this one.
He’s just got to avoid the red-hot Nolan Arenado – who is batting .438 with 3 homeruns.
The Cardinals dropped a game to the Pirates and I expect them to drop one to KC.
This is that game.
SD (114) at SF (-134)
Pick: Bet $10 SF
Notes: I liked the Giants yesterday and resisted betting them. So maybe I am a day late here but I am on San Francisco today.
Solid pitching match-up today as former A’s pitcher Sean Manaea takes on Logan Webb.
Manaea went 7 shutout innings and gave up no hits with 7 Ks.
Webb is also coming off a very good start – going 6 innings with 1 earned run.
The Giants’ offense came to life yesterday and has shown signs that it could be warming up.
They might not get to Manaea but unless he pitches 9, I think they will get some runs on the board today.
$10 bet on the Giants.
Leans
CHC (-130) at PIT (110)
Pick: Lean PIT
NYM (-102) at PHI (-116)
Pick: Lean NYM
LAD (-174) at MIN (146)
Pick: Lean MIN
HOU (-158) at ARI (134)
Pick: Lean HOU
OAK (158) at TB (-188)
Pick: Lean OAK
MIL (-188) at BAL (158)
Pick: Lean BAL
TOR (132) at NYY (-156)
Pick: Lean TOR
SEA (-116) at CWS (-102)
Pick: Lean CWS
NBA
CHA (5) at ATL (-5)
Pick: Bet $10 ATL ML
Total: 235.5 (Lean Over – 240)
Predicted Score: CHA 116 – ATL 124
Notes: Earlier in the season, it looked like a no-brainer that the Hornets would make the playoffs.
And it looked like Atlanta may join the Knicks as a playoff team from last season that would miss out this year.
Well, the Hawks turned things around and the Hornets faded.
So now Atlanta is the host team in the play-in series. The winner heads to Cleveland to secure an 8th seed and take on Miami in the first round.
The Hornets actually closed out the season on a 3-game winning streak.
The Hawks closed out the season on the road with a win over the Rockets – but it has been at home where they have done their damage.
They’ve posted a 27-14 record in Atlanta – including a win over the Hornets earlier in the season.
These teams split their 4-games this year but it looks like the Hawks have the match-up advantage.
And I think they get the win today too.
$10 moneyline bet on Atlanta.
SAS (5.5) at NOP (-5.5)
Pick: Lean SAS
Total: 226 (Lean Over – 230)
Predicted Score: SAS 115 – NOP 115
Notes: Tough not to want to bet on the Spurs here after a season of ups and downs of me betting on their games.
They paid off the last few bets I did on them and hit the season win Totals for me.
Pop and crew made the late season push to make the Play-In and I get the feeling they will go all out to win this and try to move on.
Dejounte Murray is healthy and back in the lineup and he’s arguably the best player on the court.
That’s not a slight to Brandon Ingram. He’s a hell of a player. But he’s injured.
He is listed as probable so he should be out there today in an elimination game.
Both teams ended the season on losing streaks and are limping into this play-in game.
New Orleans has the deeper team but I think the value is with San Antonio.
A lean on the Spurs.
NHL
Montreal Canadiens (142) at Columbus Blue Jackets (-176)
Pick: Bet $10 Montreal
Notes: The Blue Jackets have had moments this season that made you think they could be a playoff team.
But they are not.
They managed to have a decent enough home record – going 18-15-4. But that’s not good enough to compete with the better teams in the East.
The Canadiens are not one of those better teams but since making a coaching change a few months ago, they are a .500 team.
They had seen some decent goaltending from Jake Allen but he’s now out for the season. And while Carey Price could make it back this season, it looks like Sam Montembeault will be in the net today.
He’s not very good. But the Blue Jackets are banged up.
They might be more rested than Montreal but the list of injuries is too many.
They won’t want to look like a bitch in front of their home crowd. But I think they will.
$10 bet on the Canadiens and if you aren’t sold, then chickenshit play them +1.5.
New York Rangers (-200) at Philadelphia Flyers (164)
Pick: Lean New York
Los Angeles Kings (198) at Colorado Avalanche (-245)
Pick: Lean Colorado
