Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 4/8/22
MLB
CWS (-138) at DET (118)
Pick: Bet $10 CWS
Notes: Interesting opening series here. The White Sox were the leader of the AL Central pack last year but Detroit made huge strides too.
The Tigers are young and competitive and could be a thorn in the White Sox side all season.
Lucas Giolito will take the mound for the White Sox today. 2021 was a mixed bag for him but he still was an important piece to the White Sox rotation.
Eduardo Rodriguez will be Detroit’s starter. He comes over from Boston after a bit of a down year last season.
The expectations are high for both teams – in different capacities. But the real pressure is on the White Sox.
In game 1, they should meet those expectations.
$10 bet on Chicago.
SEA (-104) at MIN (-112)
Pick: Bet $10 MIN
Notes: If you download and listen to every single episode, you would know for years, I have shit on the Seattle Mariners.
I have to admit: last year, they actually weren’t a complete shit fest.
I just still don’t think highly of them.
As for the Twins, this does appear to be a team that is doing a quick rebuild and will try to compete in the winnable AL Central.
If the first half goes well, I anticipate them to be buyers at the deadline. Conversely, they could be sellers if the moves don’t result in wins.
The Twins will put Joe Ryan on the mound to start the year. Ryan was acquired in the deal with Tampa that sent Nelson Cruz to the Rays.
He had limited action last year but will be interesting to see if he can produce this year.
Ryan gets to match up against reigning Cy Young winner, and Panther’s best friend, Robbie Ray.
Ray was not retained by the Blue Jays and he should give the Mariners a huge boost to the frontend of their rotation.
It should be a good game here but ultimately I think the Twins pull out the win.
$10 bet on Minnesota.
MIA (120) at SF (-142)
Pick: Bet $10 SF
Notes: The Giants had a surprise season last year and look to see if they can build on that success.
There should be some regression but hard to see them completely falling apart.
As for Miami, there’s so much to say. Young pitching. Lots of it. So much they just continue to draft pitching and trade them. For picks. To get more pitchers.
Miami’s offense was dreadful last year and they made some minor changes this year.
They also saw Derek Jeter peace the hell out of there once it was clear the owners still wanted to be frugal with their payroll.
No surprise here – but very good pitching matchup here. Sandy Alcantara takes the bump for the Fish while Logan Webb will get the start for the Giants.
San Francisco is the more complete team and should get to the Marlins’ relief pitchers if they can’t get to Alcantara.
$10 bet on the Giants.

NBA
ATL (2.5) at MIA (-2.5)
Pick: Bet $10 ATL ML
Total: 228.5 (Lean Over – 232)
Predicted Score: ATL 116 – MIA 116
Notes: Miami pretty much has the top seed locked up. With 2 games left to play and a 2-game lead over the Bucks, it’s hard to see the Heat not getting it.
However, Atlanta is fighting for seeding too. So don’t expect this to be an easy matchup for the Heat.
Miami has won 5 games in a row and have improved to 28-12 on the season at home.
Atlanta has won 4 of 5 games but play on the road is still a bit of a problem.
Trae Young is coming off a 30-point, 11-assist game in a win over the Wizards. That’s pretty much been his average the last few weeks.
That’s a dangerous dude heading into the playoffs.
I have this as a close one and more than likely, yeah, Miami wins.
But I’ll take a shot on Trae and the Hawks here.
$10 moneyline bet on Atlanta.
CHA (2) at CHI (-2)
Pick: Bet $10 CHA ML
Total: 229 (Lean Over – 235)
Predicted Score: CHA 119 – CHI 116
Notes: Neither team has been playing great basketball lately. The Bulls have lost 3 in a row but the competition has been tough in those games.
Still, that does not bode well heading into the playoffs where they could matchup with those teams.
The Hornets have lost 3 of 5 with wins over the Magic and Knicks.
Yeah, not great.
But I kind of like them to get another win today. Playing in a back-to-back, I actually think they have some momentum after a solid shooting game and a near triple-double by Lamelo Ball.
Another flyer. Or maybe a fade on a struggling Bulls team that has been missing their Ball for awhile.
$10 moneyline bet on the Hornets.

Predicted Score: PHX 112 – UTA 118
OKC (8.5) at LAL (-8.5)
Pick: Lean OKC
Total: 227.5 (Lean Over – 234)
Predicted Score: OKC 117 – LAL 117
NHL
Minnesota Wild (-106) at St. Louis Blues (-113)
Pick: Bet $10 Minnesota
Notes: After burying the Blues a few weeks back they have won 4 of 5 and are putting up some gaudy offensive numbers.
The Wild are also playing some good hockey but find themselves in game 4 of their road trip. The road has been better for them this season than last year.
But that 6-2 loss on the road in Nashville is stuck in my head for sure.
The Blues have been a very good home team this year and I give them a slight edge to win here.
But I like the line movement and at the time I made this bet, I still had a plus line on Minnesota.
Not anymore, I know, but still, maybe it’s a sign that Vegas agrees.
$10 bet on the Wild.
