Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 5/31/22
NHL
Edmonton Oilers (146) at Colorado Avalanche (-178)
Pick: Lean Colorado
Notes: The prohibitive favorites to win the Stanley Cup open their series against the high-powered Oilers today.
Colorado has, for almost all of this season, been the team to beat in the Western Conference and possibly the entire league.
Their star player, Nathan McKinnon, matches up against Edmonton’s star player, Connor McDavid with a trip to the finals on the line.
But these guys won’t be going at it alone.
The Avalanche have Mikko Rantanen, Nazem Kadri and Cale Makar.
Edmonton has Leon Draisaitl – who was 4th in points in the regular season and leading in points in the playoffs.
Goaltending seams to favor Colorado with Darcy Kuemper minding the net.
But Mike Smith has pulled things together and has been a reason the Oilers are here.
The Avalanche should win this series and should win this one, but I want to get a feel for this series before betting it.
Edmonton played the Avalanche tough this regular season – winning one game 6-3 and losing the other 2 in OT and a shootout.
It should also be noted that the money is coming in on Colorado and that line seems to be getting better.
So something to look out for.
Value is on Edmonton but I’ll lean the Avalanche.
MLB
KC (120) at CLE (-140)
Pick: Bet $10 KC
Notes: The Guardians got the win over the Royals yesterday but I’m still not too impressed with this Cleveland team.
They are 4 games below .500 and their offense has evened out after a hot start to the season.
Their numbers are still much better than the Royals’ offense, but KC has started getting some better hits lately.
The Royals should win a game in this series.
And while Daniel Lynch continues to be wild at heart at times, I don’t think he’s much worse than Cal Quantrill out there for Cleveland.
$10 bet on the Royals.
LAA (118) at NYY (-138)
Pick: Bet $10 NYY
Notes: Apparently these two teams are overperforming.
Based on my preseason analysis, that’s a correct statement.
It doesn’t mean that these teams aren’t good, though.
Each of them are looking to break a losing streak as the Angels have dropped 5 in a row and the Yankees 2.
As Arch painfully pointed out yesterday, no one really saw the Angels losing 4 in a row to the fucking Blue Jays in Anaheim.
Now they will put former Met, Noah Syndegaard, on the mound to try and right the ship.
He will face off against Jordan Montgomery – who actually has similar numbers to Thor.
I think the Yankees, returning home, get the job done in this series and it starts today.
$10 bet on New York.
ATL (-168) at ARI (142)
Pick: Bet $10 ARI
Notes: We talk a lot about some older pitchers and how they have held things together.
Charlie Morton could just be the epitome of that.
Now granted, he’s off to a rough start to this season, but the Braves, in general are too.
Atlanta is 3 games under .500 and 9.5 games back of the Mets.
That’s exactly where they want to be.
Let the Mets get too comfortable and get everything right in time for the playoffs.
The Braves lost 6-2 yesterday to Arizona – which gives me some paus in betting the D-Backs today.
But I will do it anyway.
The Braves will eventually figure things out but until then, I don’t mind fading them at lines this big.
$10 bet on Arizona.
