Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 5/5/22

Sports Bet Picks for 5/5/22

NHL

Pittsburgh Penguins (132) at New York Rangers (-160)

Pick: Bet $10 New York

Notes: After a triple OT game 1, it’s hard to imagine where this series goes from here.

I mentioned before the last game that the Penguins metrics trended better than the Rangers did and they got 83 shots on goal that last game.

Goaltending kept the Rangers in it as Shesterkin had 79 saves.

But eventually, exhaustion set in and the Rangers’ defense let too many high danger shots in the third OT and one got past Igor.

So heading into game 2, both teams will be a bit more tired – playing almost a full extra game makes it like 3 games in consecutive days.

The Penguins will be going into this one with a backup of a backup as Louis Domingue is slated to start in place of Casey DeSmith who was starting in place of Tristan Jarry.

Pittsburgh will need to feel good with escaping with a win but also scared that they shot everything they could at Shesterkin and probably can’t do the same today.

I think the Rangers bounce back strong here and play a bit tighter defense to really help Igor out.

$10 bet on New York.

Washington Capitals (210) at Florida Panthers (-260)

Pick: Lean Florida

Nashville Predators (300) at Colorado Avalanche (-385)

Pick: Lean Colorado

Dallas Stars (202) at Calgary Flames (-250)

Pick: Lean Calgary

MLB

TOR (-156) at CLE (132)

Pick: Bet $10 TOR

Notes: The Blue Jays avoided a sweep at the hands of the Yankees and in doing so, broke New York’s winning streak.

Despite the big winning streak by the Yankees, the Blue Jays are only 2.5 games behind them in the East.

Cleveland started off the season strong and then faded and have rebounded back a bit.

The Guardians have won 4 of their last 5 games – beating the A’s and 3 times in a row and splitting a 2-game series with the Padres.

Cleveland will put Aaron Civale on the mound today and he’s had a rough start to this season.

The Blue Jays will counter with Jose Berrios – who has turned a corner a bit over his last 3 starts.

If he can continue to pitch like this, Toronto will be happy they got the pitcher they thought they were getting at the trade deadline last season.

The Blue Jays are the better team here and I say their offense is real and not a manifestation by taking advantage of shitty teams’ shitty pitchers.

$10 bet on Toronto.

DET (146) at HOU (-174)

Pick: Bet $10 HOU

Notes: The Astros completed their sweep of the Mariners and continue their homestand by welcoming in the Tigers.

Detroit split a doubleheader with the Pirates yesterday for their 8th win of the season.

The Tigers will put Tarik Skubal on the mound to face off against Jose Urquidy.

Skubal is having a pretty good season so far but he’s coming off a very rough start against the Twins.

Urquidy has not looked very good this season.

But he’s also drawn some tough opposition – facing the Blue Jays twice and Angels once.

I like him to settle down a bit today against a subpar Detroit offense.

$10 bet on Houston.

LAA (-154) at BOS (130)

Pick: Lean LAA

CIN (205) at MIL (-245)

Pick: Lean MIL

WSH (116) at COL (-136)

Pick: Lean COL

NYM (132) at PHI (-156)

Pick: Lean MIN

MIA (-102) at SD (-116)

Pick: Lean SD
