Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 5/9/22
NBA
BOS (0.5) at MIL (-0.5)
Pick: Lean MIL
Total: 212.5 (Lean Under – 209)
Predicted Score: BOS 103 – MIL 106
Notes: After game 3 ended in a somewhat controversial way, the Boston Celtics look to even the series before heading back home for game 5.
Despite some inconsistent calls by the refs including a possible missed flagrant call at the very end on Bobby Portis during the chaotic scramble to close the game, the main reason Boston was in that spot was because Jayson Tatum did not have a good game.
If Tatum shoots the ball better then he did, the Celtics more than likely don’t need to come from 14 points down and they could have won the game.
The series has shown that without Middleton, Boston is the deeper team.
But they are down 2-1 still.
I expect another crazy one today and the line indicates that.
A lean on the Bucks.
MEM (10) at GSW (-10)
Pick: Lean MEM
Total: 224 (Lean Over – 229)
Predicted Score: MEM 110 – GSW 119
Notes: Did Jordan Poole’s grabbing of Ja Morant’s knee injure him in the last game?
I say no.
If you look at the play – like I’m sure most people have ad nauseum – Morant twists his knee before Poole’s love tap even happens.
However it does not change the outcome.
Ja Morant is out for game 4.
Without him, the Grizzlies have survived and been able to win games before.
But this is the playoffs. And their opponent is locked in and playing some damn good basketball.
Hard to see the Grizzlies having a chance to win.
But maybe keeping it to within 10.
A lean on Memphis.
NHL
Florida Panthers (-184) at Washington Capitals (152)
Pick: Bet $10 Florida
Notes: At this point, consider this an experiment. I’ve bet the Florida Panthers twice in this series and they have lost both times.
Let’s go for 3.
The old fart, Washington Capitals have found a second life in this series.
Maybe they 2021 Milwaukee Bucks’d us here.
Because this team looks rejuvenated.
I still find it difficult to believe that the Capitals can take 4 games against the Panthers, but crazier things have happened.
The sports books seem to have given the Caps some respect in this one – dropping the line from the previous -200 range for Florida.
I’m betting $10 on the Panthers but if I lose, I’ll do it all again in a couple of days to test my experiment.
And if in the end, I’m down $40 in this series – it’d be worth it just to see the chaos it would bring with the top seed bounced in the East.
Leans
New York Rangers (-113) at Pittsburgh Penguins (-106)
Pick: Lean Pittsburgh
Calgary Flames (-156) at Dallas Stars (130)
Pick: Lean Calgary
Colorado Avalanche (-255) at Nashville Predators (205)
Pick: Lean Colorado
MLB
MIL (-165) at CIN (145)
Pick: Bet $10 MIL
Notes: The Reds finally won a game this weekend. In fact, they won 2 – making it their first series win of the year.
But the competition gets tougher today as they host the Brewers.
Fresh off a series loss the Braves, Milwaukee will look to pick up where they left off last time they played the Reds.
In that series, the Brewers outscored the Reds 34-12.
Now the Reds will have some good news as starting pitcher Luis Castillo was taken off the 10 day IL and will get his first start of the year.
The bad news is that he was injured with shoulder soreness – so you can imagine there will be a pitch count and a watchful eye on him.
Castillo pitching well would be great for him and the Reds – because it would make him an attractive trade asset later this season.
Despite Castillo being out there, I think the Brewers get it done again against the Reds.
$10 bet on Milwaukee.
