Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 6/15/22
NHL
Tampa Bay Lightning (126) at Colorado Avalanche (-152)
Pick: Lean Colorado
Notes: Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals kicks off tonight in Colorado with the Lightning looking for their 3rd straight cup.
Standing in their way is the season-long prohibitive favorites who have been sitting around doing nothing for over a week.
It’s been over two decades since the Avalanche have been to the Cup Finals and they kick things off with a bit of controversy.
Because the big question for the Avalanche is who they will have in goal tonight.
Darcy Kuemper got injured in game 1 of the Oilers series and missed out on the sweep.
Pavel Francouz led them to those 4 wins and is 6-0 with a 2.86 GAA and .906 save percentage in the playoffs.
Kuemper is 6-2 with a 2.65 GAA and .897 save percentage these playoffs.
So you can argue that Francouz is the better goalie right now.
This seems like a Golden Knights-type issue that probably won’t end well no matter what.
As for Tampa, they Andrei Vasilevsky who has shown that his experience in the playoffs is pretty priceless.
These two teams met twice in the regular season – splitting them with home wins from each of them.
On the surface, it’s easy to say that Colorado is the deeper team, has the better offense and should win this series.
But damn it’s hard to discount the Lightning here.
Should be a fun series.
As for this game, I like the Avalanche to grab a good win – though the long layoff and goalie drama is a bit worrying.
So just a lean on the avalanche.
MLB
MIN (-148) at SEA (126)
Pick: Bet $10 MIN
Notes: This will be the last game between these two teams the rest of the regular season.
The Twins got the win on Monday and Seattle grabbed the win yesterday.
That puts the series tied at 3-3 so this is not only the rubber match but the series-deciding game too.
Minnesota will put Sonny Gray on the mound.
Sonny is having a pretty damn good first year with the Twins.
It’s reminiscent of his first season with Oakland or his first season with the Reds.
So expect him to decline after this year, get traded and start the cycle all over again.
I’m skipping over his two Yankees seasons because that was doomed just like Randy Johnson, Hideki Irabu, and Carl Pavano.
Gray will take on Marco Gonzales today.
Gonzales has been pretty hittable this year but has been able to eat some innings in his starts.
So it could avoid the Mariners dipping into their 18th ranked bullpen.
I like the Twins to pull out the win today and close out the series on top.
$10 bet on Minnesota.
TB (118) at NYY (-138)
Pick: Bet $10 TB
Notes: The Yankees got a 2-0 win over the Rays yesterday but now they face off against Cy Young favorite Shane McClanahan tonight.
McClanahan is 7-2 with a 1.87 ERA and 0.86 WHIP.
His last start was an 8-inning shutout gem against the Cardinals.
The Yankees will have Nestor Cortes on the mound today.
Cortes is right up there for Cy Young candidates as he’s got a 1.96 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP and a 5-2 record.
The Yankees gave won 5 in a row and sit 10 games up on the Rays.
I know I’m the lone supporter of the Rays around here but it does get difficult with some inconsistent play.
I think they show up today and grab a needed win over their AL East rivals.
$10 bet on Tampa.
