Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 8/17/21
TOR (-200) at WSH (182)
Pitchers: A. Manoah (ERA: 2.66 – Road ERA: 3.36 – Avg. ML: -121) vs. E. Fedde (ERA: 5.26 – Home ERA: 5.01 – Avg. ML: 130)
Pick: Bet $10 TOR
Notes: Washington has lost 7 in a row and the former Canadian team won’t get a reprieve as they welcome the lone Canadian team into town. Alek Manoah gets the start for the Blue Jays. He’s been absolutely sensational this season. On the opposite side of the mound will be Erick Fedde. Who has not been sensational this season.
Washington is on a tailspin and finds themselves at the bottom of the NL East. Toronto is in 4th place in the NL East but has a record that could put them in the lead of the NL East. They need wins and should get one today.
$10 bet on Toronto.
CHC (146) at CIN (-159)
Pitchers: K. Hendricks (ERA: 4.21 – Road ERA: 3.2 – Avg. ML: -105) vs. V. Gutierrez (ERA: 3.98 – Home ERA: 5.98 – Avg. ML: 122)
Pick: Bet $10 CIN
Notes: I know Chicago can’t lose them all but it really seems like Chicago can lose them all. Kyle Hendricks has given the Cubs quite a few wins this year. He’s 13-5 but he’s coming off his worst start of the season. Statistically, Gutierrez matches up pretty well with Hendricks – but a few bullpen SNAFUs by the Reds have cost him some wins.
The line on this keeps getting worse for Cincinnati so jump on soon before it gets way out of hand.
$10 bet on the Reds.
MIL (-151) at STL (139)
Pitchers: C. Burnes (ERA: 2.18 – Road ERA: 2.11 – Avg. ML: -143) vs. A. Wainwright (ERA: 3.29 – Home ERA: 2.8 – Avg. ML: -114)
Pick: Bet $10 STL
Notes: Adam Wainwright turns 40 at the end of this month. I know this because he and I are kindred spirits and I will be turning 40 soon as well. The main difference? He’s an athlete and somehow can pitch complete games as if his name was Nolan Ryan.
Wainwright has pitched 7 or more innings his last 4 games and has given up a combined 7 runs in that span. Not bad for an old man. He does get the unenviable task of matching up against one of the Brewers’ aces in Corbin Burnes today. Burnes is coming off an 8-inning, no-run game a week ago.
The line movement suggest a play on the Brewers but I see some value in taking a shot with the Cardinals here.
$10 bet on St. Louis.
SEA (-141) at TEX (130)
Pitchers: T. Anderson (ERA: 4.31 – Road ERA: 5.29 – Avg. ML: 131) vs. S. Howard (ERA: 5.09 – Home ERA: 7.79 – Avg. ML: 115)
Pick: Bet $10 TEX
Notes: The Rangers managed to take 2 games from Oakland this past weekend and improved their home record to 28-31. Not bad for a team void of major talent. On the opposite side of the field is a team that I love betting on. At home.
On the road, not so much. Seattle continues to be one of the luckier teams and that is bound to run out. Could it be Texas that does it? I’d say at least once in this series and maybe twice.
$10 bet on the Rangers.
OAK (-115) at CWS (106)
Pitchers: C. Bassitt (ERA: 3.13 – Road ERA: 3.5 – Avg. ML: -126) vs. R. Lopez (ERA: 0.82 – Home ERA: 1.13 – Avg. ML: -125)
Pick: Bet $10 CWS
Notes: I figured by the time we started recording that I would no longer be getting a plus line on Chicago here but still, I am going to bet them. Lopez will get the open for them today and he’s been pretty unhittable. It will then turn into a bullpen game which could frustrate the Oakland bats – that thrive on getting to a starter after a trip through the lineup.
The A’s will put Bassitt on the mound and he’s pitched awesomely his last few starts. So it should be a tight game for the most part but I like Chicago sneaking out the win.
$10 bet on the White Sox.
BOS (-149) at NYY (125)
Pitchers: T. Houck (ERA: 3.53 – Road ERA: 2.81 – Avg. ML: 102) vs. J. Montgomery (ERA: 3.92 – Home ERA: 3.5 – Avg. ML: -125)
Pick: Lean NYY
BOS (-135) at NYY (110)
Pitchers: N. Eovaldi (ERA: 3.98 – Road ERA: 5.33 – Avg. ML: -118) vs. L. Gil (ERA: 0 – Home ERA: 0 – Avg. ML: -184)
Pick: Lean NYY
ATL (-124) at MIA (115)
Pitchers: H. Ynoa (ERA: 3.13 – Road ERA: 4.93 – Avg. ML: -116) vs. S. Alcantara (ERA: 3.49 – Home ERA: 2.6 – Avg. ML: 109)
Pick: Lean ATL
LAA (108) at DET (-117)
Pitchers: D. Bundy (ERA: 6.42 – Road ERA: 6.22 – Avg. ML: 105) vs. C. Mize (ERA: 3.74 – Home ERA: 3.59 – Avg. ML: 136)
Pick: Lean LAA
BAL (186) at TB (-204)
Pitchers: J. Means (ERA: 3.28 – Road ERA: 1.99 – Avg. ML: 112) vs. D. Rasmussen (ERA: 4.5 – Home ERA: 0 – Avg. ML: -103)
Pick: Lean TB
CLE (137) at MIN (-148)
Pitchers: E. Morgan (ERA: 5.77 – Road ERA: 5.14 – Avg. ML: 157) vs. B. Ober (ERA: 4.8 – Home ERA: 4.59 – Avg. ML: 115)
Pick: Lean MIN
HOU (-187) at KC (171)
Pitchers: F. Valdez (ERA: 3.13 – Road ERA: 3.06 – Avg. ML: -137) vs. D. Lynch (ERA: 6.34 – Home ERA: 7.59 – Avg. ML: 137)
Pick: Lean HOU
SD () at COL ()
Pitchers: Y. Darvish (ERA: 3.77 – Road ERA: 4.85 – Avg. ML: -170) vs. G. Marquez (ERA: 3.59 – Home ERA: 3.07 – Avg. ML: 113)
PHI () at ARI ()
Pitchers: K. Gibson (ERA: 2.84 – Road ERA: 3.89 – Avg. ML: 120) vs. M. Kelly (ERA: 4.37 – Home ERA: 3.45 – Avg. ML: 149)
NYM (145) at SF (-158)
Pitchers: M. Stroman (ERA: 2.82 – Road ERA: 2.65 – Avg. ML: -119) vs. L. Webb (ERA: 3.03 – Home ERA: 1.62 – Avg. ML: 102)
Pick: Lean SF
PIT (263) at LAD (-297)
Pitchers: W. Crowe (ERA: 5.37 – Road ERA: 6.14 – Avg. ML: 161) vs. D. Price (ERA: 3.8 – Home ERA: 3.37 – Avg. ML: -163)
Pick: Lean LAD
