Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 8/2/21
CLE (238) at TOR (-267)
Pitchers: E. Morgan (ERA: 6.38 – Road ERA: 6 – Avg. ML: 150) vs. R. Ray (ERA: 2.77 – Home ERA: 2.48 – Avg. ML: -118)
Pick: Bet $10 TOR
Notes: Heading into this weekend, the Blue Jays were a .500 “home” team. Now that they are actually home, the are 3-0. They swept the hottest team in baseball in fact. Now they host a Guardians team that is fading fast. They did manage to win a shootout with the White Sox this weekend but other than that game – this is a team that struggles to score runs.
The Blue Jays can score runs and also have a fairly solid pitcher on the mound today in Robbie Ray. This is an incredibly chalky game but still seems like the play.
$10 bet on the Blue Jays.
PHI (-122) at WSH (113)
Pitchers: R. Suarez (ERA: 0 – Road ERA: 0 – Avg. ML: 0) vs. J. Gray (II) (ERA: 4.5 – Home ERA: 4.5 – Avg. ML: -178)
Pick: Bet $10 PHI
Notes: The Nats got Josiah Gray as part of the deal for Max Scherzer. He’ll get the start today – his second start of the season. The Phillies will put reliever Ranger Suarez on the mound. So pitching advantage … Washington?
Philly has not played well despite the sense of urgency to do so. They managed to not get swept by the Pirates – which is something to celebrate I guess. But Washington is a banged-up team that has nothing really to play for. They got a World Series from their investment and are looking to build for the future.
The Phillies invested in one of the biggest contracts in history and brought in a World Series winning manager. If they fail to win a watered down NL East, the Philadelphia fans will be patient and understanding and not call for everyone on the team to be hit with sacks of door knobs. Or, you know, the opposite of that.
I like the Phillies to nab a win today and make it two wins in a row on the road – something they have only done 3 times this season. $10 bet on the Phillies.
BAL (212) at NYY (-235)
Pitchers: J. Lopez (ERA: 6.34 – Road ERA: 6.95 – Avg. ML: 149) vs. A. Heaney (ERA: 5.43 – Home ERA: 5.78 – Avg. ML: -105)
Pick: Bet $10 BAL
Notes: The Yankees just swept the Marlins in Miami. Which should be cause for celebration. A wins a win. You play the team in front of you or some shit. But that offense still does not seem to be clicking yet – despite adding, you know, more offense to the lineup.
One of their pitching acquisitions will take the mound today as former Angel Andrew Heaney takes the mound against 2-12 Jorge Lopez. Lopez went 2 innings and gave up 5 runs in his last start. Against the fucking Marlins. So here is a chance for the Yankees to show that their offense is better than its looked recently.
Only I think Baltimore can keep up. The Orioles have played the Yankees tough all season and has a positive run differential the past 10 days. The Yankees don’t even have that.
The Yankees should win this one but the value is to bet Baltimore.
$10 bet on the Orioles.
NYM () at MIA ()
Pitchers: T. Megill (ERA: 2.09 – Road ERA: 2.45 – Avg. ML: -108) vs. J. Luzardo (ERA: 6.09 – Home ERA: 4.95 – Avg. ML: -113)
SEA (137) at TB (-148)
Pitchers: C. Flexen (ERA: 3.88 – Road ERA: 6.03 – Avg. ML: 129) vs. M. Wacha (ERA: 3.59 – Home ERA: 1.8 – Avg. ML: -110)
Pick: Lean SEA
LAA () at TEX ()
Pitchers: Undecided (ERA: 0 – Road ERA: 0 – Avg. ML: 0) vs. D. Dunning (ERA: 4.3 – Home ERA: 2.59 – Avg. ML: 119)
PIT (196) at MIL (-217)
Pitchers: B. Wilson (ERA: 4.9 – Road ERA: 2.25 – Avg. ML: -101) vs. E. Lauer (ERA: 3.28 – Home ERA: 3.34 – Avg. ML: -105)
Pick: Lean MIL
SF () at ARI ()
Pitchers: A. DeSclafani (ERA: 3.15 – Road ERA: 2.53 – Avg. ML: 104) vs. T. Widener (ERA: 4.87 – Home ERA: 7.5 – Avg. ML: 146)
