Max’s Sports Bet Picks for 9/3/21

Sports Bet Picks for 9/3/21

PIT (123) at CHC (-133)

Pitchers: S. Brault (ERA: 4.67 – Road ERA: 1.36 – Avg. ML: 177) vs. A. Mills (ERA: 3.71 – Home ERA: 4.62 – Avg. ML: 124)

Pick: Bet $10 CHC

Notes: It took extra innings but the Cubs beat the Pirates yesterday. It was their 4th win in 5 games. This is a team that should be much worse than they are but somehow still manage to be better than the really crap teams in the league. The Pirates are one of those teams – though they seem to bite me whenever I bet against them.

Brault has been a better road pitcher this season but it’s hard to ignore his last outing where he went 3 innings and gave up 7 runs. Alec Mills has seen some similar outings this season but is coming off arguably his best one this year.

I’ll take the Cubs here. $10 bet on Chicago.

OAK (135) at TOR (-147)

Pitchers: S. Manaea (ERA: 4.04 – Road ERA: 3.83 – Avg. ML: -115) vs. A. Manoah (ERA: 3.22 – Home ERA: 1.85 – Avg. ML: -127)

Pick: Bet $10 TOR

Notes: Alek Manoah has been the real deal this season. Other than a shitshow against the Nationals a few weeks ago, he’s been fairly consistent out there. The same cannot be said for Sean Manaea who gave up 22 runs in 20 innings pitched in August. That’s a 9.90 ERA for the month.

Both teams have won 4 of 5 games so going into this series they are playing some decent baseball the past week. I don’t trust either team really but I trust Oakland a little less on the road in the East and against a team that has the offense to match them and in this case, the better pitching.

$10 bet on the Blue Jays.

MIN (163) at TB (-178)

Pitchers: R. Dobnak (ERA: 8.38 – Road ERA: 4.41 – Avg. ML: 104) vs. M. Wacha (ERA: 4.91 – Home ERA: 3.23 – Avg. ML: -115)

Pick: Bet $10 TB

Notes: The Rays have dropped 2 in a row after losing the back pair of their Red Sox series. But they get to stay home and welcome the underwhelming Twins into town. Minnesota is just 26-39 on the road this season and are coming off a 2-game series against the Cubs where their offense was completely missing.

Not much to love about this pitching matchup as both Dobnak and Wacha can be hit hard. I just trust Tampa’s bats more than I do the Twins’.

$10 bet on the Rays.

CLE (140) at BOS (-160)

Pitchers: C. Quantrill (ERA: 3.33 – Road ERA: 5.15 – Avg. ML: 107) vs. N. Eovaldi (ERA: 3.76 – Home ERA: 2.99 – Avg. ML: -123)

Pick: Bet $10 CLE

Notes: Cleveland has won 4 in a row and are playing some pretty good baseball lately. One of those wins was a home win over the Red Sox just 5 days ago. One thing that has been a big help for the Guardians is their offense. It was dreadful the whole season but the past month they were ranked 4th in team batting average and 7th in runs.

Granted the Red Sox were ranked 2nd in both of those categories but ranked 25th in WHIP and 15th in ERA. So if Cleveland’s offense can keep up with Boston in this series and they have a slight pitching edge, perhaps they nab a win or 2 this weekend.

I’m banking on one of those being today. Eovaldi has had a nice season but Quantrill is pitching very well lately. I think this is a winnable game for Cleveland.

$10 bet on the Cease & Desists.

DET (159) at CIN (-174)

Pitchers: T. Alexander (ERA: 4.16 – Road ERA: 3.16 – Avg. ML: 149) vs. V. Gutierrez (ERA: 4.06 – Home ERA: 4.7 – Avg. ML: 114)

Pick: Bet $10 CIN

Notes: The Reds broke their losing streak in game 2 of the doubleheader on Wednesday and now they hope to keep up in the playoff hunt by beating up on Detroit. The Tigers showed promise for a few weeks and now they are playing like the Tigers team we thought they should be.

It’s actually a bit more chalk than I like to eat on a Reds team with a bullpen that forgets that outs are good and earned runs are bad at times. But still, I think they manage the win today.

$10 bet on the Reds.

NYM (-153) at WSH (140)

Pitchers: R. Hill (ERA: 4.06 – Road ERA: 4 – Avg. ML: -106) vs. S. Nolin (ERA: 6.69 – Home ERA: 0 – Avg. ML: 193)

Pick: Lean NYM

BAL (202) at NYY (-223)

Pitchers: J. Means (ERA: 3.54 – Road ERA: 2.41 – Avg. ML: 122) vs. N. Cortes Jr. (ERA: 3.1 – Home ERA: 2.98 – Avg. ML: -120)

Pick: Lean NYY

PHI (-140) at MIA (129)

Pitchers: K. Gibson (ERA: 2.69 – Road ERA: 3.65 – Avg. ML: 115) vs. J. Luzardo (ERA: 7 – Home ERA: 5.87 – Avg. ML: 110)

Pick: Lean PHI

STL (152) at MIL (-166)

Pitchers: A. Wainwright (ERA: 2.99 – Road ERA: 3.68 – Avg. ML: -115) vs. F. Peralta (ERA: 2.51 – Home ERA: 2.07 – Avg. ML: -137)

Pick: Lean STL

CWS (-200) at KC (160)

Pitchers: D. Keuchel (ERA: 4.97 – Road ERA: 5.35 – Avg. ML: -116) vs. K. Bubic (ERA: 6.09 – Home ERA: 5.57 – Avg. ML: 130)

Pick: Lean CWS

ATL (-145) at COL (134)

Pitchers: H. Ynoa (ERA: 2.99 – Road ERA: 3.93 – Avg. ML: -116) vs. A. Senzatela (ERA: 4.25 – Home ERA: 3.96 – Avg. ML: 148)

Pick: Lean COL

TEX (186) at LAA (-205)

Pitchers: G. Otto (ERA: 0 – Road ERA: 0 – Avg. ML: 200) vs. S. Ohtani (ERA: 3.04 – Home ERA: 1.95 – Avg. ML: -119)

Pick: Lean LAA

SEA (-125) at ARI (105)

Pitchers: T. Anderson (ERA: 4.12 – Road ERA: 4.85 – Avg. ML: 127) vs. M. Bumgarner (ERA: 4.41 – Home ERA: 3.97 – Avg. ML: 128)

Pick: Lean ARI

LAD (-120) at SF (-100)

Pitchers: D. Price (ERA: 4.15 – Road ERA: 4.46 – Avg. ML: -164) vs. A. DeSclafani (ERA: 3.45 – Home ERA: 4.16 – Avg. ML: -101)

Pick: Lean LAD

HOU (-141) at SD (129)

Pitchers: J. Urquidy (ERA: 3.45 – Road ERA: 3.88 – Avg. ML: -132) vs. J. Arrieta (ERA: 7.28 – Home ERA: 7.54 – Avg. ML: 110)

Pick: Lean SD
