Max’s Salty NHL Bets for 1/20/2021
A 1-1 day on my bets. Once again, whiffed on a value play with Chicago but left the Devils value play on the table.
Edmonton Oilers (134) at Toronto Maple Leafs (-149)
Pick: Lean Toronto
Notes: Both of these teams have been mediocre to start the year and each have had suspect goaltending. The Oilers have been terrible on the power play and Toronto good with them. So if Toronto cannot find ways to get 5-4 advantages, I could see them losing. Still, I am leaning Toronto here until Edmonton can show better advanced metrics.
San Jose Sharks (163) at St. Louis Blues (-182)
Pick: Bet San Jose
Notes: San Jose has a terrible goalie situation – one of the worst in the league. So why do I see value in them? For one, I think it’s not as bad as it appears and should balance out. For two, I think their offense can put pressure on St. Louis tonight and quality shots on their goalie will lead to goals. It’s that simple. Could it go horribly wrong and Rich’s puckline possible? For sure. But I’m going glass half full here with the Sharks.
Minnesota Wild (-137) at Anaheim Ducks (124)
Pick: Lean Minnesota
Notes: I was burned on taking the Wild two days ago and avoiding the temptation again. Anaheim hasn’t been that bad – considering a two game set with Vegas to start the season.
Montreal Canadiens (-124) at Vancouver Canucks (112)
Pick: Bet Montreal
Notes: Vancouver has some offensive issues and the goalie for the Canadiens isn’t too shabby and is starting to get into season shape. This is my favorite play of the day despite eating some chalk. Which is cool since Rich and I disagree!
Arizona Coyotes (170) at Vegas Golden Knights (-191)
Pick: Lean Vegas
Notes: Early metrics have Vegas as by and far the best overall team. Their xGF and xGA stats are lining up to mean a dominating season. I don’t think Arizona comes close in this one – but that chalk is crazy. Leaning the Golden Knights.
Rich’s Fishy NHL Bets for 1/20/2021
Hockey Fish has let me down the last couple of days. Let’s see if it straightens up and gets things right today.
Edmonton Oilers +135 provides betting value, but they are underwater for power ranking and goal differential. However, Fish says the Oilers have a legit shot to win.
St. Louis Blues -1.5 (+133)
Montreal Canadians (-130) at Vancouver Canucks (+113)
Getting a home team and plus line works for me. Home/away power ranking tilts to Vancouver at 53/47 and they own the goal differential too at 56/44. The odds suggest the Canucks only have a 47% chance to win, I have it closer to 55%.
The Play: Vancouver Canucks +113
